However, Nassuc instead declared independence for her homeworld, an action the Regent saw as a betrayal. In 2373, General Nassuc was invited to Deep Space 9 by Quark, who offered to sell her biogenic weapons for use against the Regent. Unknown to her, the Regent was already aboard the station for the same purpose. Quark arranged for the two sides to "accidentally" meet, and they immediately fired on each other. Nassuc sent purification squads after the Regent, and arms dealers Hagath and Gaila. (DS9: "Business as Usual") Nassuc was portrayed by an unknown actress. • Nassuc was an Palamarian female general. She was once a member of the Regent of Palamar's army, who hoped she would succeed him as leader of the Palamarian Empire. However, Nassuc betrayed him and established the Palamarian Freedom Brigade. The Regent vowed revenge and asked Hagath, Gaila and Quark to find a way to kill millions of Nassuc's people while he was on Deep Space 9 in 2373. Quark's conscience prevailed and he set in motion a daring plan. He invited her to the station and later escorted her to a cargo bay, where she and the Regent began shooting at each other. The Regent, Gaila and Hagath managed to escape the station, although Nassuc sent purification squads after them. One group managed to assassinate the Regent several hours later. (DS9 episode: "Business as Usual") General Nassuc's takeover of Palamar then moved into a new phase. The Regent still had loyalists devoted to avenging him and Nassuc found it difficult to assert her control. Gaila had managed to persuade her to not kill him, by giving her weapons free of charge. The Palamarian Civil War had ended by 2376, with ten million people having been killed. (DS9 - Gateways novel: Demons of Air and Darkness)
