- The Jedi Shadow Service was a secretive part of the Old Jedi Order. Formed in pre-Ruusan times, the Shadows were Jedi who dedicated their life and service to eradication of users and artifacts of the Dark Side. Jedi Shadows fought in the Cold War and the Great Galactic War as operatives specializing on destruction of the Sith. During the post-Ruusan era, the Shadows dwindled, having no real enemy save random Dark Jedi and occasionally found darkside artifacts. However, during this period, the Shadows were put in charge of the Gray Overwatch, a system of measures created to monitor the activities of ex-Jedi, Gray Jedi, splinter sects and Padawan washouts. The reemergence of the Sith caused a revival in Shadow activities. The so-called "Quarantine Case", dedicated to investigating the activities of Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidiuos, was led by four consequent Shadowmasters. To counteract this, Palpatine decided to shift the Shadows' attention to the Outer Rim. During the Clone Wars, the GAR Field Military Police was created by Palpatine's executive order, and Jedi Shadows were commissioned as officers in this service. This, and the fact that the Shadowmaster of that time, Bodo Pius, was an unwitting pawn of Palpatine, proved to be effective and successfully thwarted any progress in investigating Darth Sidious' activities. The Shadow Service of the Old Jedi Order was dissolved after Order 66, when most of Jedi Shadows were murdered. It was formally dissolved by the surviving Shadowmaster, Rina Ascura, in 19 BBY.
