  • The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is a public university located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States. The University, often referred to as UTC, UT Chattanooga, or simply "Chattanooga" (especially in reference to its collegiate athletics), is one of three universities and two other affiliated institutions in the University of Tennessee System; the others being in Knoxville and Martin. UTC was founded in 1886 as the then-private Chattanooga University, which was renamed in 1889 as U.S. Grant University. In 1907, the university changed its name to University of Chattanooga. In 1969, the university merged with Zion College/Chattanooga City College to form The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as part of the University of Tennessee System.
