- Gwenllian Gryphonheart was the wife of King Nicolas Gryphonheart, ruler of Erathia. They were married in 1133 AS, and their first daughter Catherine was born less than a year later. On Catherine's seventh birthday, their second daughter Beatrice was born. This was heralded as a good omen across the land, and caused a nationwide celebration for seven days, one day for each year that separated the sisters. Fearing for her well-being, the king arranged for her to marry Roland Ironfist, who had recently defeated his brother Archibald to secure his hold on the throne of the Kingdom of Enroth.

On Catherine's seventh birthday, their second daughter Beatrice was born. On her sixteenth birthday, Catherine enlisted in the Erathian military, against her father's wishes. King Nicolas wanted to have her dragged back to the palace in chains, but Gwenllian talked him out of it. In 1153, Beatrice and Gwenllian were killed by mauraders while visiting the northern coast. It was rumored that when they received the news, the King almost destroyed the palace, and Catherine almost destroyed the barracks she dwelled in. The mauraders were switly dealt with, but Catherine blamed herself for not being there to protect them, and decided to become her father's personal guard to make sure something similar didn't happen to him. Fearing for her well-being, the king arranged for her to marry Roland Ironfist, who had recently defeated his brother Archibald to secure his hold on the throne of the Kingdom of Enroth.
