  • Introduced in the Cataclysm expansion, Reforging allows undesired stats on gear to be exchanged for more useful stats. It allows 40% of a secondary stat (such as critical strike, dodge, haste, hit or parry rating) or spirit to be exchanged for another secondary stat or spirit, and reforging is handled by NPCs known as Arcane Reforgers located in the major cities. The cost of reforging an item is equal to its sale value. Stats can only be exchanged for other stats which are not already on the gear. Earlier in Cataclysm's development, reforging was planned to be an ability of Jewelcrafters, Engineers, Tailors, Blacksmiths and Leatherworkers, who would have been able to create items similar to enchantment scrolls which other characters could use to reforge their gear.[citation needed]

  • Reforging is a method of upgrading gear. A piece of gear must satisfy certain conditions in order to be reforged: * It must reach its maximum level (done via augmentation) * It has the potential to be reforged (each piece of equipment has a predetermined number of reforges it can undergo; from none up to two) * The player has the materials and gold to do the reforging Reforges always succeed, and will increase the rarity of the gear by one level. This increases its potential stats, max level and cost, upgrades its skill (if it has one), and changes its appearance. Reforged gear will start back at level one, so players may experience a period of lower gear score until they augment their newly reforged gear piece.
  • Purchasing a reforge from the Goblin Tinkerer's buying interface applies better/worse stats (buffs) to the item being reforged, such as improving damage, increasing movement speed, improving the defense bonus for the item, and so on. However, possible modifications include bad ones that will make the item less desirable, such as making a weapon do less damage or have a slower firing speed. Accessories and Weapons have separate lists of possible buffs/debuffs, and different weapon types also have slightly different lists (range weapons can have improved firing speed, while melee weapons can have improved size which increases hit-range, while spells have reduced mana cost). Reforging an item chooses one buff/debuff from its applicable list at random. Multiple reforges on an item do not stack: Reforging an item will overwrite any existing buff on the item. Items can be reforged infinitely with no penalty. Each buff/debuff has a name and color. The best buffs for weapons will apply 5 different buffs (examples below). Reforging can increase and decrease the tier of the item by up to 2 tiers, raise the sell price by up to 209%, or decrease it by up to 60%. Note: Not every item is able to have every kind of prefix. For example, the Magical Harp cannot have the Mythical prefix because the harp itself has no knockback. Mythical boosts knockback so it can't be on the harp. Flails, spears, , drills, and chainsaws cannot be reforged for size/knockback, so their best is Godly.

These specialists will also allow you to attach a Decoration to your weapon. * Decorations add particle effects to your weapon. * There are several tiers of decorations. * The higher the tier, the more elaborate the effect. * The first tier is available for purchase from Reforging specialists * Higher tiers are available through dungeon drops, Dungeon Maker, and Tradeskill Apprentices. * To add a decoration to your weapon, drag and drop your decoration into the decoration slot in the “Reforge” tab. Reforging stats and adding a decoration to a weapon must be done at the same time. If you revert the reforging process on an item that has a decoration, it will revert the stats as well as remove the decoration. Certain special items, such as HQ rewards and Mythical Class Weapons (but can be done after you have completed the Epic Repercussions and received a Venerated version of your Mythical Class Weapon), cannot be reforged.
