Roland's Action Skill is a sentry gun called the Scorpio Turret; a turret that shoots enemies and also provides a shield for cover. Roland's turret will be affected in one of three ways depending on which skill tree the player decides to fully upgrade. The turret lasts 20 seconds. The Scorpio Turret is a very versatile ability, when used correctly it can fill a wide range of situations, such as being used to cover the player's side to keep from being flanked, or temporarily holding off enemies while the player retreats. The Scorpio Turret is also the longest skill to cool down, mainly due to its devastating capabilities.
* Investments in the Infantry branch of the skill tree can increase the Scorpio Turret's damage, reduce its cooldown time and even allow it to shoot guided missiles.
*Investments in the Support branch of the skill tree can reduce the Scorpio Turret's cooldown, increase its burst fire count and allow it to eject resupply packs to replenish the ammunition and grenade stocks of all team members.
*Investments in the Medic branch of the skill tree can add team regeneration or revive effects to the turret.

Some of Roland's abilities are meant to supplement and support the party, while some boost his offensive capabilities. His Infantry skill tree can boost his weapon damage, while his Medic skill tree will increase health regeneration, and Support will increase shield regeneration and regenerate ammunition for the party. Some of these benefits are only active when Roland's Scorpio Turret is deployed. He is by far the best support class because his turret can be upgraded to heal and regenerate ammunition for him and his allies. He is the only character that cannot boost his melee in some way, but his upgrades for the Scorpio Turret are more spread out among his skill trees, making it potentially more useful in more situations than the other character's action skills . Roland is the only playable character who does not have an action skill to daze enemies and has the only action skill capable of being taken out by weapons fire aside from character death.

Following the Vault Hunters' defeat of General Knoxx, the Atlas Corporation abandoned all remaining Crimson Lance soldiers on Pandora. Roland used this opportunity to rally the Lancemen against Hyperion, pledging to give them a cause their previous employer could not promise them, forming the Crimson Raiders, along with Mordecai, Brick, and his then-girlfriend Lilith.
The Raiders were originally stationed in New Haven, but was discovered when Shep Sanders disclosed its location to Hyperion. Overrun by the company, and with Lilith believed dead by Hyperion, the Raiders relocated to Sanctuary. Roland then ended his relationship with Lilith to focus on defending the town, while she drew the bandits' attention away.
Before meeting with the new Vault Hunters, Roland was captured by the Bloodshots, a bandit group who attempted to claim the bounty on his head. With the assistance of Lilith, the Vault Hunters rescue him from Hyperion. He then resumes his post as the leader of the Raiders and assigns story quests to the Vault Hunters.
During the Crimson Raider/Slab joint strike on Control Core Angel, he assists the Vault Hunters in retrieving the Vault Key. In the core of the facility, he lowers the shields guarding Angel's Eridium injectors, while the Vault Hunters destroy them. Against Roland and Angel's insistence, Lilith appears as well. When Angel dies, Roland goes to retrieve the Vault Key, but is shot dead by Handsome Jack. After Jack is defeated, Roland is buried with the original vault hunters tearfully mourning him.
A manifestation of Roland becomes part of the plot of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, where he is added in randomly at points whenever Tiny Tina wants to, and was meant to be a necessary player in Tina's game would it not be for his untimely demise, ultimately representing how Tina can't let go of Roland. Roland acts the same , deploying his Scorpio Turret and assisting the player, he will always use common rarity weapons and is clad in white armour instead of his normal attire to fit with the theme. His choice of words when speaking are clearly inspired by Tina's speech patterns rather than the actual Roland's. Roland, in said game, identifies himself as a Knight of the Queen. After the original Vault Hunters finish their game, they gather at Roland's memorial statue, joined by Claptrap and the new Vault Hunters, where Tina says her farewell.

He is the son of Robin Hood and Marian, as well as the youngest member of his father's band of thieves known as the Merry Men. He almost wasn't born due to his mother's illness, but his father was able to heal her in time with a wand, meaning that, when she did eventually die, Roland was all Robin had left of his wife. He eventually ended up in Storybrooke where he began to bond with his father's new girlfriend, Regina, and got wrapped up in a lot of their drama - especially that which involved her half-sister Zelena - along the way.

On their way back to Zion they picked up a distress signal from the Logos and then turned back to aid the ship and its crew. Roland found Niobe, Ghost and Sparks unharmed, and the Logos in need of a battery-powered jump start in order to fly again. After this Roland and Niobe created a small faction, wherein the Hammer and the Logos shared crews and resources and traveled both back to Zion. Roland was very cynical and unwilling, after having seen the carnage wreaked on the other ships, to assist Neo in his request to take one of the ships to the Machine City until Niobe offered Neo the use of the Logos. After Bane killed Maggie, Roland understands that it was Bane who triggered the EMP too early. A wide search of his ship showed him that Bane is no longer aboard the Hammer, which was already in flight and bound for Zion. Roland gave Niobe the helm and they rushed through a small mechanical line straight down to Zion. At that time the first wave of the Sentinel army reached the docks of Zion, whereupon the Hammer deactivated all the Sentinels by means of an electromagnetic pulse. Roland and the rest of his crew were then considered heroes and the saviors of Zion until Commander Lock accused him of "handing over the docks on a silver platter" on grounds that the EMP also destroyed Zion's last defenses and the few remaining APUs who were also defending the docks of Zion. Dopo diversi anni Roland condusse il suo esercito in battaglia contro gli orchi e vinse molte battaglie, ma quando Vengard fu espugnata il suo esercito fu sconfitto e decimato e prima della ritirata il Re gli affidò il comando della base di Okara, nel tentativo che potesse riorganizzare il suo esercito e riconquistare la città di Montera. Il suo amico Russel divenne il comandate di Nemora.

- Prominent Japanese manufacturer of synths, effects units, drum machines, guitar amplifiers, and (through its Boss subsidary) guitar stomp box effects. Engineer Ikutaro Kakehashi established Roland in 1972 after leaving his previous venture, Ace Electronics (best known in the U.S. as the maker of the Ace Tone line of combo organs). With some staff from Ace and a substantial amount of Kakehashi's savings, the company designed and put into production its first product, the TR77 drum machine, only 90 days after founding the company. The company moved very quickly after that; the next year, it introduced its first synth, the organ-like SH1000, which became the first synth to be manufacturered in Japan, and several more keyboard instruments followed shortly, as did some guitar amps. Also, Kakehashi, faced with needing to find more work for some of his engineers, established the Boss subsidary that year. For the next eight years, the company deveoped and marketed a dizzying array of products, including the world's first commercially produced guitar synthesizer, the GR-500, and its first modern polyphonic synth, the Jupiter-4. But in 1981, as it was getting set to introduce the now-famous Jupiter-8, its European distributor went bankrupt. Kakehashi had to scramble to recover unpaid-for merchandise and obtain credit to continue operating the company. Roland recovered from this, however, and went on to produce several now-highly-regarded synths, including the Jupiter and Juno lines, the JX line (designed and produced by the company's guitar synthesizer group), and the MKS rack-mount synths. Several other products from this period, which were lightly regarded at the time, also went on to become classics: the TR-808 and TR-909 drum machines, and the TB-303 bass synth/sequencer. When Yamaha's DX7 begin cutting into the sales of competitors' analog synths, Roland responded with the digital D-50 and subsequent models, using digital processing but with different synthesis methods than Yamaha's FM synths. Sound designers found Roland's digital synths easier to understand than Yamaha's FM methods, and Roland became one of the few '80s synth makers to respond successfully to the Yamaha challenge. Even the random things went right for Roland during this decade; a chance meeting between Kakehashi and Sequential Circuits' Dave Smith at a trade show led to a discussion of synth remote control buses, which became the genesis of MIDI. The European distribution problem was eventually solved by accquiring SIEL in 1987 and setting it up as Roland's European arm. Roland also established a subsidary called Roland DG, which originally targeted designing computer peripherals for use in music production. After several twists and turns, Roland DG became a leading maker of numerically controlled machining equipment, and moved away from the music industry. In 1989, Roland jumped into the workstation market with the sampler-based W30, based on its previously introduced S550 sampler. This product pointed the direction to which Roland would eventually turn for most of its revenue. The XV series introduced in the mid '90s evolved into the Fantom workstation line, which today is Roland's biggest-selling product. However, there always seems to be a group at Roland ready to introduce innovative and offbeat products when they think they can get away with it. The JD-800, introduced at a time when most synths were designed with stripped-down user interfaces, stunned the world by putting knobs and switches on a digital synth. The V-Drums line revived the concept of the drum synthesizer from the '80s, and products such as the VariOS and the V-Synth have introduced new methods and principles of synthesis, such as Variphrase. The name "Roland" was chosen by Kakehashi mainly because it was easy for Westerners to pronounce, and has nothing to do with any mythology. Roland is noted for using model numbers rather than names for most of its products; said model numbers usually consist of one or two letters followed by numbers, and any given letter or combination of letters usually corresponds to a given type of product. A model number with two digits is usually a keyboard, and a number with three digits, where the first and second digits are the same, is usually a rackmount synth. (For example, the D-550 is the rackmount version of the D-50.) A Japanese superstition holds that the number 4 is unlucky, and Roland usually avoids using a '4' in a model number or name.
