  • Xbox is a video game console produced by Microsoft starting on November 15, 2001. It directly rivals Sony's PlayStation 2. The successor to the Xbox is Microsoft's Xbox 360, which features major improvements from the original Xbox and it also rivals Sony's PlayStation 2 successor, PlayStation 3 and other current generation consoles. Due to the Xbox 360's success, the Xbox stopped being manufactured by Microsoft in late 2006. Due to Rockstar Games producing Grand Theft Auto games for PlayStation platforms first, all ports to the Xbox came a few years after the original releases of the games. This changed after the release of the Xbox 360, as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game came out on the same date.
  • The XBOX was Microsoft's first game console. Its essentially like a PC, without an operating system.

  • Xbox is the platform that launched Microsoft into the gaming world. The system itself is very much like a computer as the controller ports are extensions to USB ports, the disc drive is modified from a computer, and many other parts like the hard-drive are literally computer parts. The controller has two triggers, appropriately labeled L for left and R for right. It has 4 buttons similar to the PlayStation 2s, but labeled differently. colored; A=Green, B=Red, X=Blue and Y=Yellow, It has two additional buttons that are sometimes placed above the ABXY buttons and sometimes below that are colored white and black. It has a D-Pad that can point in eight directions, and two analog sticks that can register movement in any direction as well as clicking them down. In all that adds up to 10 buttons, a D-Pad and two analog sticks on a larger than average controller. The system is best known for games like Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and various other exclusives, but it did support both TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters Future Perfect
  • Following the release of its successor, the Xbox 360, in 2005, the Xbox was discontinued in late 2006. Support for out-of-warranty Xbox consoles was discontinued on March 2, 2009; and its Xbox Live support was discontinued on April 15, 2010.

  • The Xbox is a video game console developed by Microsoft. It was released on November 15, 2001, in North America, followed by Australia and Europe in 2002. It was Microsoft's first foray into the gaming console market. As a sixth-generation console, it competed with Sony's PlayStation 2, Sega's Dreamcast, and the Nintendo GameCube. It featured Xbox Live, a fee-based online gaming service that enabled subscribers to download new content and connect with other players through a broadband connection. Unlike other online services from Sega and Sony, Xbox Live had support in the original console design through an integrated Ethernet port. Xbox's successor, the Xbox 360, was launched in November 2005.

It was first released on November 15, 2001 in North America; February 22, 2002 in Japan; and on March 14, 2002 in Europe and Australia. It can have up to four controllers, and you can save a soundtrack to it. It is the predecessor to Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. The Xbox was Microsoft's first independent venture into the video game consle arena, after having collaborated with Haydos in porting Windows CE to the Sega Dreamcast console.

• The Xbox is the result of Bill Gates, the Master Chief and Bob Saget all being in the same room at the same time. The Xbox is believed to be some kind of time warp device or something like that. For some reason, it actually competes against Nintendo. It was released on the same day as the Nintendo Shamecube in 2001. The Xbox was actually not supposed to kill anyone, and was simply a half-hearted attempt for Microsoft to monopolize the shaming industry, as they've already monopolized most other virtual industries. Bill Gates thought this plan was a failure from the start, but he authorized it anyways. It turned out to be a huge success. The Xbox was the most popular shaming system for several years. As everyone knows, you must release stupid sequels to everything, and the Xbox 360 was released a few years later. Production stopped on the Xbox, and it was forever destroyed. Rest in peace, Xbox. We will never forget yo... IS THAT AN XBOX 360?!?!

  • Halo: Combat Evolved launched with the Xbox when it released in 2001, and was critically acclaimed. Many consider Halo: Combat Evolved to be the game that kept the Xbox brand alive, as well as saved the console from an early death. Halo 2 released for the Xbox on November 9, 2004 to universal acclaim, and was the first Halo title to feature Xbox Live support. The Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack (a DLC collection containing most of Halo 2's DLC Map Packs) was released for the Xbox in 2005. All three Halo titles that were released for the Xbox were released in a collection titled the Halo Triple Pack. Most Xbox games (including all three of the Halo titles for Xbox) are backwards compatible with the Xbox 360. However, the player may experience minor graphical glitches while playing original Xbox games on the 360. The Microsoft Xbox was the second highest selling console of last generation, having sold 24 million copies world wide. First place was the Sony PlayStation 2, which sold 120 million copies. In third was the Nintendo GameCube at 21 million, and in last position was the Sega Dreamcast, which sold 9 million copies worldwide. The best selling Xbox game was Halo 2, which sold 8 million copies, and in second was Halo: Combat Evolved, which sold 5 million copies. The most highly rated Xbox game was Halo: Combat Evolved, with an average meta-score of 97 out of 100. Second was the GTA Triple Pack (also known as GTA: The Trilogy), which achieved an average meta-score of 96 out of 100. Halo 2 pulled into third with an amazing 95 out of 100. The vastly popular Xbox Live gaming service (released in 2002) launched the Xbox into fame. The legacy of the Xbox has been continued with the launch of the Xbox 360. Another popular feature of the Xbox is the ability to create a System Link of multiple Xbox consoles wired together, allowing multiplayer games to take place with more than four players. As of April 15, 2010, Xbox Live does not support original Xbox games and consoles. This also includes original Xbox games being played on the Xbox 360. The Xbox was the most technologically advanced system of the last generation, and the only one manufactured in the United States. Some of the most popular Xbox games, including Halo: Combat Evolved, can be purchased from the Xbox Live Marketplace, and can be played on the Xbox 360. These products are entitled "Xbox Originals."

  • The Ultimate Doom and Doom II were included in Doom 3 Collector's Edition for the Xbox, which was released in 2005. This port includes two exclusive levels, "Sewers" for the Ultimate Doom and "Betray" for Doom II. It featured multiplayer like the PC version, however not through Xbox Live. This port was programmed by Vicarious Visions. The Xbox version of Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil also contains the Ultimate Doom and Doom II, as well as Master Levels for Doom II. This particular "port" actually appears to be an emulation of the aged DOS version of the game; furthermore, it seems to have been somewhat rushed, as it is somewhat limited in functionality, and has a few bugs and design quirks. * The screen resolution is 320x240, rather than the 640x480 of the Windows 95 port, the 480i minimum output resolution of the Xbox, or any of the 480p/720p/1080i HDTV outputs offered by the Xbox. There is also no option to adjust gamma, so its appearance may be washed out on some TV sets. * Sound effects play back at the "low" sampling rate that the DOS version defaults to, and not the high sampling rate that is selectable from the configuration dialog (or that is used in most other versions of the game). Thus, sound quality isn't as crisp as in other versions. * The split-screen multiplayer runs each player's screen in a quadrant of the TV screen, no matter how many players are in the session. If only two or three players are in a match, the unused quadrants of the screen are black. * You cannot select difficulty when playing multiplayer, so all games are played at the default level of Hurt Me Plenty. * Monsters cannot be enabled for deathmatch games, nor can deathmatch II rules (with respawning items) be enabled. * Controls cannot be remapped. * In Ultimate Doom, the skybox for Episodes 2, 3, and 4 is missing; only the skybox from Episode 1 is displayed. (Activision, the publisher, actually denies this is a bug, mistakenly claiming that the entire game takes place on Mars.) * In Doom II, the Super Shotgun is located in the wrong location in the weapon cycling order; instead of being placed between the Shotgun and the Chaingun, it is placed between the Fist and the Chainsaw, making it difficult to cycle to quickly. * Cheat codes exist, but activating them is different--the player simply needs to hold one of the shoulder triggers, and press any one of the four face buttons consecutively. Each face button triggers a different cheat. The face button of choice does not need to be pressed in rapid succession; as long as no other button press "interrupts" the cheat input, the cheat will toggle. In fact, the cheat codes are so easy to activate, that accidentally entering a cheat code during "normal" gameplay is commonplace. The ports of Doom and Doom II released on Xbox 360 through Xbox Live Arcade are of much higher quality overall, and appear to use a form of custom engine rather than a straight emulation of the DOS code.
  • Microsoft had been trying to make game consoles for a while, but due to money limitations, they could not have the chance to create the console. The console was announced in 1999, and was named Xbox in 2000. Yet, along with rival consoles, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube caused a lot of controversy, before they were even released, as the buyers waiting to buy the consoles put Sega in debt. The console had a bulky controller which was too big for little children to use so Microsoft released a shorter controller for shorter grip. The console is counted as one of the best consoles ever. When the console was released, Microsoft thought it was going to be a commercial failure, but when the console was released, it became very successful. The console had many features that most did not have. It is a DVD player and a CD player, the same with rival console, PlayStation 2. The console heavily uses online gaming and online capabilities, something which the PlayStation 2 did not have. It also had sharp 3D cell-shaded graphics, sharper than the PlayStation 2, but not as sharp as other rival console, Nintendo GameCube.
