abstract
  • Barry Thomas is one of the heroes from the 1993 science fiction film 12:01. In the movie, Barry saves the life of Lisa Fredericks and stops an endless time loop with the help of other characters. He is portrayed by Jonathan Elihu Silverman. Barry is a Caucasian male with black hair and an average build. He appears to be in his late 20's. He can be characterized as easygoing and has a sense of humor. He works in UTREL Corporation providing personnel support for the technical staff. His direct supervisor is Anne Jackson, head of personnel for UTREL. Barry's close friend and neighboring coworker is Howard Richter, who loves to play practical jokes. Barry has romantic feelings towards Lisa Fredericks, one of the head scientists for UTREL's "superaccelerator" project (accelerating subatomic particles faster than the speed of light). The movie depicts Barry reliving the same day multiple times until the time loop is finally broken. In each iteration of the day, Barry wakes up in his bed wearing an unbuttoned shirt, white boxer shorts, and a sock. The television turns on with a newscast broadcasting UTREL's "superaccelerator" project and commentary from Dr. Thadius Moxley, the head of UTREL. As the days repeat, Barry unravels the mystery of the time loop. The time loop is caused by Dr. Thadius Moxley tampering with the superaccelerator. Barry is unaffected by the time loop because he was electrocuted at the exact time Dr. Moxley activated the superacceletor. The time loop ends when Dr. Moxley is placed the path of the superacceletor's particle beam thus preventing the time loop from happening again. In addition, Barry learns more about Lisa Fredericks' murder and successfully saves her life in multiple iterations of the time loop. There are some running jokes in each day which include a telephone call from his mother, kids playing football in the street, and termination from UTREL for a variety of reasons.
