  • Tapu was a term originating in Seven Cities that could refer simply to a food-hawker - the word coming from the language of the Bisbrha and/or Debrahl tribes. Tapu, however, could also be used more broadly (especially when speaking about simple foods, usually spiced, served on skewers) - probably as a general term for 'street food' or for 'food of the locality' - as, for example: * Apsalar (the assassin) in Ehrlitan, Seven Cities, eating food bought from a "tapu-hawker" which were skewered pieces of fruit and meat. * Scillara (while helping out in "K'rul's Bar" in Darujhistan, Genabackis) making "skewers of meat and vegetables and fruit", seasoned with "pungent" greenspice. Scillara (a Seven Cities' native) called the food "tapu", and indicated that it was part of Seven Cities' cuisine - that being the only kind of cuisine that she knew how to prepare. * Deadsmell (eating in an open-air tavern in Letheras, Lether) likened skewered chunks of orthen meat and vegetables to that of "Seven Cities tapu, though not as spicy".
