- Born in eastern Los Angeles, Berman honed his artistic skills from his earliest days, California Institute of Art attending the Chouinard Art Institute forerunner and winning numerous competitions as a child newspaper. Turning to writing and directing in his later years, Berman served as scribe to such popular later Efforts from the studio as The Fox and the Hound (1981) and The Rescuers (1977), in addition to later directing Disney's first PG-rated theatrical release, The Black Cauldron (1985).
