| abstract | - A Shepherd and some sheep sing "Rama Lama Ding Dong" for the opening number in episode 417 of The Muppet Show. The song was written by the lead singer for The Edsels, and was released as their first single under the erroneous title of "Lama Rama Ding Dong" in 1958. When it became popular three years later, in 1961, it was re-released under the proper title and became a top-30 hit. The arrangement heard on the show opens with an interpolation of Bach's aria Schafe können sicher weiden (Sheep May Safely Graze) from the cantata Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd (The lively hunt is all my heart's desire). The opening bars are heard in this, mixed with a few "Ding dongs" from "Rama Lama Ding Dong", which, a couple of seconds later, goes into the latter song.
