On December 28, 2005, the Capitals traded Peat to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Colin Forbes. He retired in 2007. In the NHL, Peat played in 130 games, scoring 8 goals and 2 assists with 234 penalty minutes. He never played in a playoff game.
