  • Vos'yru'sadan, known to close friends by his core name Syrus, was a male Chiss who took part of in the Chiss Rebellion in 142 ABY. A native of Naporar, he was a member of the Vos family and the elder brother of the Centurion Vos'elk'eetash. The son of well-traveled traders, Syrus grew up speaking not only his native Cheunh, but also Basic and Minnisiat. From an early age he desired to join the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force. He was very close with his younger sister Selkee, despite the six-year age difference between them. In 137 ABY, the Golden Empire conquered the Chiss Ascendancy with a series of quick, devastating strikes, including one at Naporar. Syrus was deeply offended by the assault on his people and the surrender of the Ruling families at Csilla, and even more incensed when the Centurion Sato Raltharan came to Naporar to recruit his young sister into the Order of Keltrayu. Despite Syrus's protests, his parents gradually came to see value in having their daughter so close – perhaps influentially close – to the woman who had just conquered them, and Selkee eventually agreed to become a Novice. Embittered, Syrus continued his studies, intending to become a law enforcement officer since the CEDF had been disbanded and assumed into the Glorious Armada of the Golden Empire. This desire was only strengthened in 141 ABY, when the Vagaari attacked the Empire. In 142 ABY, however, a group of Chiss rebelled against the Empire, and Syrus was quick to join their cause. Though Tariun Sakaros was forced to split his already-reduced forces to combat the insurrection, the Chiss rebels had less internal support than they expected. While the majority of Chiss resented rule by the Empire, only about a third were actively supportive of the rebels. Roughly half the Chiss population felt the rebellion was ill-timed, given that the Empire was actively engaged in defending them from the Vagaari, and the remainder actually supported the Empire. Without the expected mass support of the Chiss, the rebels could not long hold out against the Empire. Syrus was captured along with the rest of the crew of his ship. Rin proclaimed amnesty for the majority of the rebels, though she had the leaders and instigators of the Rebellion executed for treason. Feeling miserable and defeated, Syrus returned to Naporar to pursue his career in law enforcement. He eventually found work in a municipality on his home planet. After being commissioned as a Centurion, Selkee made attempts to contact her brother, but he refused to speak to her. When their father died of a brain aneurysm in 154 ABY, Selkee returned to Naporar for the funeral. Syrus ignored her as much as possible and addressed her by her full name or as "Centurion" when they had to speak. He had come to view Selkee as little more than a propaganda tool for the Empire and Queen Rin Sakaros, and as Selkee could sense that in his thoughts, the two parted on bad terms.
