  • The Aleph-class Starfighter was built and designed in secret by Sienar Fleet Systems. The fighter has earned various nicknames such as the Pondskipper, but is most commonly known as the Aleph or Twee. The fighter in general is a two seater starfighter and unless rushed will not see full scale production of this craft for five more years. It is rumored to be the first starfighter Sienar would outright propose to the New Republic after years of being the Empire’s primary supplier of starfighters. What makes this fighter unique is the fact that it is a deviation from the previous path Sienar has made in the starfighter market. This fighter shares very few characteristics to the TIE Fighter and even sports an astromech port. The purpose of this design is to counter the larger threats in the galaxy. Ironically, one such threat, the Xen'Chi Invasion, sped up of the Aleph-class tests, but the fighter was still not ready to see service by the time the war ended. In testing the fighter has handled itself rather well in a controlled environment. The hull is designed to be tough and is reinforced to house power generators to feed strong deflector shields. Its main weapons are two flanking quad laser that boast a wide field of fire plus forward mounted proton and concussion missile tubes. Its top speed can match the fastest interceptors, both in space and the confines of the atmosphere, but it accelerates slightly slower than the X-Wing Starfighter. Due to its impressive speed, the starfighter’s main weakness is in its maneuverability as was discovered in initial testing. To remedy this situation, rows of thruster ports were placed along the hull enabling the starfighter to make vertical jumps and sidestep to the left and right. Many of the test pilots still say that the backup system is no substitute for the grace and maneuverability of smaller snubfighters.
