Brown is noticed for his vicious tackling style which causes him to get criticism from pundits, fans and other players. Brown started his career with Manchester City after progessing through their youth ranks. He was named Player Of The Year in 1998. Brown has been on loan with Hartlepool United , Portsmouth and Sheffield United. In January 2000 he was signed on contract by Sheffield United . Following his spell at Sheffield, he was named the Player Of The Year 2002 and PFA Team Of The Year. After his four year stay at Sheffield he was signed by Tottenham Hotspur. Then Brown moved to Fulham for 18 months and after Wigan Athletic in 2007. He spent two seasons at Wigan Athletic before moving to Portsmouth . A good move for Brown as he played in the 2010 FA Cup Final against Chelsea. He then signed for Leeds United then Port Vale .
