They can join together to form purpose specific assemblages, and are also able to integrate themselves with machinery and use their combined intelligence to pilot, or control, the vehicle or machinery.
- The Lekgolo are a species of colonial eel- or worm-like organisms which naturally join together to form purpose-specific assemblages, the most noteworthy of which are the Mgalekgolo, also known as the Covenant Hunters. Lacking vocal chords thanks to their unique physiology, they instead vibrate their bodies to make low rumbling speech that has been described as being "more felt than heard", indicating that it vibrates in infrasound. Their blood is orange-red and smells like burnt plastic.

Ils sont de grande taille 3.60 mètres mais combattent repliés sur eux-même en ne mesurant plus que 2.40 mètres . Leur masse imposante ne leur empêche pas d'être rapides . Leur stratégie se résume à : Arme à combustible pour combat éloigné et charge pour combat rapproché . Leur armure est quasiment impénétrable et ils sont équipés d'une arme à combustible dévastatrice rendant ces couples de Chasseurs redoutable.

Lekgolo are also able to integrate themselves into machinery such as the Scarab (the Halo 3 model) and use their combined intelligence to pilot, or control, the vehicle or machinery. Every worm-like creature is an individual eel, about 1.4 meters long, with its own central nervous system. It is speculated that the Lekgolo have microscopic muscular cilia which are used to connect to other Lekgolo and that each cilium is capable of communicating chemically similar to a synapse, explaining how the species can become a collective being in the form of the Mgalekgolo. The only times that individual Lekgolo can be seen in the Halo games are in Halo 3 and Halo 5: Guardians. If you shoot at a Hunter's exposed Lekgolo worms, small eel-like creatures will fly out of the corpse, but will disappear after a few seconds. In Halo 5: Guardians, on the level Blue Team, one can see Lekgolo worms slide down a glass pane into a suit of armor, forming a Mgalekgolo. Also, they appear by themselves in the book Contact Harvest being used to explore the Forerunner dreadnought and the Thanolekgolo in Halo: Nightfall as they are natives to Installation 04.
