Synopsis
  • John Carter's origin is briefly retold as a flashback. Reprinted from .
  • Poster pin-up page of ERB's fantastic creatures.
  • After boasting to his father about having a "fantastic" birthday gift for his mother, Korak must now hunt for the bejeweled elephant tusks, before tonight's celebration begins.
  • On the surface world, Cogdon Nestor discovers a telegraph giving him an account of the further adventures of David Innes in Pellucidar.... Innes has returned to the Earth's Core with the "iron mole" loaded with books, blueprints and supplies. Once in Pellucidar, he goes into a village which is being terrorized by winged creatures. The villagers feel defenseless because their Amulet of Power has been stolen. Armed with swords, Innes and the chief go fight the creatures to win back the Amulet. After winning their battle, the villagers realize that the Amulet has no secret powers, but their survival and strength has always come from within, not from a worthless trinket. They discarded it, and Innes continues his journey.
  • Captured by the Tharks, John is escorted to their kingdom where he is inspected by the king. He lashes out, killing one of the king's men. The king's court applauds John and he is told to follow a female Tharak into a dungeon. There, he is guarded by a dog-like beast. John leaps over the creature, and makes his escape. As he breaks out through an open window, another creature attacks him. Suddenly, the dog-beast leaps upon the second creature, killing it. John realizes that the dog-beast wasn't to guard him, but protect him, and the two walk away from their fallen foe as companions. Reprinted from .
