The Capitals recalled Orlov from Hershey on November 20, 2011 and Orlov made his NHL debut on November 21, 2011 against the Phoenix Coyotes. Orlov scored his first NHL goal on January 15, 2012, on Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes. It was the game-winning goal in a 2-1 Capitals victory over the Hurricanes
