  • In 1942 the U.S. launched a series of nuisance attacks all along the border with the Confederate States. US General Abner Dowling's attack on Texas from Clovis, New Mexico met with some success allowing him to move his headquarters to Sudan. From here, he threatened Lubbock. When Lubbock fell, Sudan became (for the second time) part of the State of Houston.
