Synopsis
  • Continued from last issue... In order to get more in tune with the magical nature of her powers, the Scarlet Witch has come to the ruins of the Brant Corporation in order to locate the Serpent Crown, which was lost during their battle against Orca and Roxxon Oil owner Hugh Jones. There she is attacked by the Living Laser, who she is shocked to find alive and well. He manages to collect the Serpent Crown before she can and when Brand Corporation guards attack, he easily blasts them away with his laser powers. Meanwhile, the other Avengers have returned to Avengers Mansion with the inert body of Wonder Man so that they can study his miraculous resurrection more closely. After taking notice of the crowd of Avengers fans that have gathered outside the Mansion, the group retires inside. The Vision is told that Robert Frank, the World War II hero known as the Whizzerm has come to see him. The Vision meets with the Whizzer who has come to ask the Vision if it's possible for making amends with Wanda, whom he thinks is his daughter. However, just after the Vision tells the Whizzer of Wanda's current situation, the old hero is hypnotized by a laser that causes him to go berserk. Thinking that the Avengers are his old foes, the Whizzer attacks Iron Man, Beast, and Captain America after knocking out the Vision. The Whizzer is finally taken down by the Wasp and Yellowjacket who knock him out with bio-stings in the ear. When assessing the damage they find that the lab has been damaged as well and that Wonder Man's body is missing. In all the confusion, Wonder Man had gotten up under his own power quietly walked out the back door. He is initially swarmed by a group of Avengers fans who are trying to pull a souvenir off him, however Wonder Man fights them off and ducks down an alleyway. While back at the Brand Corporation, the Scarlet Witch revives and has to fight off the guards. Although she manages to escape, she is winged on her retreat to warn the other Avengers of the threat posed by the Living Laser and the Serpent Crown. However, it would appear that Wanda is too late, as the Living Laser, now wearing the Serpent Crown has tracked down Wonder Man and put him under his influence, his intended plot the whole time in a grander scheme to destroy the Avengers once and for all. This story is continued Avengers Annual #6..
