  • Dryads are creatures that are found in Twisted Thicket Island.
  • Closely related to Hamadryads, the only difference is that, while Hamadryads are linked to individual trees, Dryads are linked to a forest as a whole. They, including Lizette and Rhea, helped in the battle between Light and Dark creatures when many dryads had been darkened. More than one Dryad can be bonded to the same forest just as more than one Naiad can be bonded to the same pond or other body of water. Hamadryad's trees, however, can only contain one hamadryad.
  • Dryads — beings of the Otherworld
  • They are citizens of the United Planets, and Blok is both a member of this race, as well as a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
  • Dryads are a metavariant of Elves. Only female Dryads have ever been reported. They are noted for having hair color that changes throughout the year (often mimicking the colors of tree leaves) and for having an average height of only one meter, similar to the height of dwarves. With their small physique, they lack the hardiness and strength of dwarves and are generally weaker and more delicate than normal elves.

  • Dryads were non-humans who lived in the Wood of the Dryads, north of Nyissa and south of Tolnedra. They were techically "monsters", due to being a race that had no God of their own, but Dryads were likely to take offense at the word. One of the great families of the Tolnedran Empire, the Borunes, was closely tied to the dryads through intermarriage. The Dryad trait bred true in Borune females for countless generations. The Imperial Princes Ce'Nedra was of that line. Dryads experience sexual euphoria when given chocolate, a tactic Belgarath used to his advantage to avoid capture.

They were techically "monsters", due to being a race that had no God of their own, but Dryads were likely to take offense at the word. Dryads were always female and invariably lovely, and captured human males for breeding purposes. Dryads were each bound to a particular oak tree in the wood, and lived as long as their tree. Dryad breeding was tied into the growth of their trees. Due to their close connection to trees, they could communicate with trees and were predicatably not fond of axes or fire in their woods. All dryad names began with a soft "X" sound, including Queen Xantha, X'Nedra (whose name was more commonly spelled "Ce'Nedra"), and her cousing Xera.

All known dryads follow the shamanic tradition, following the Father Tree totem. They tend to be solitary, living only in forest areas. They suffer from allergic reactions with the contact to the urban environment. Some dryads possess a limited empathy with animals.
