  • Carl Cosgrove, Jr. (b. 1964; d. 2012) was the son of Carl Cosgrove Sr., and a guardsman with the 237th Transportation Company of the California National Guard. His Guard unit was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm on 20 September 1990, arriving on 3 November. While on leave aboard the Saudi Princess in March of 1991, he and three buddies from the Guard drugged and raped a Danish journalist, Anneke Jesperson. Cosgrove supplied the drug to incapacitate her. The crime was covered up by J. J. Drummond, making Cosgrove indebted to him. His unit returned to the United States on 23 April 1991. Cosgrove went on to earn a degree in agricultural management from the University of California before becoming the president and CEO of Cosgrove Agriculture. He lived in a palatial estate near the town of Manteca. However, the crime and coverup were problematic for Cosgove because his father would have disinherited him if he had become aware of his son's crimes. As a result Cosgrove was pressured to support Drummond for Sheriff of Stanislaus County and to do Drummond's bidding in a variety of ways. During the L.A. riots of 1992 his Guard unit was mobilized. While in L.A. the men realized that Jesperson was following them. After Drummond killed Jesperson, Cosgrove participated in a coverup of the murder. When the conspiracy began to unravel, Cosgrove was killed by Drummond.
