  • The Time of Troubles (Russian: Смутное время, Smutnoye Vremya) was a period of Russian history comprising the years of interregnum between the death of the last Russian Tsar Feodor Ivanovich of the Rurik Dynasty in 1598 and the establishment of the Romanov Dynasty in 1613. At the time, Russia was occupied by Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the Dymytriads, and suffered from civil uprisings, usurpers and impostors.
  • The Time of Troubles, also known as the Godswar or Avatar Crisis, was a cataclysmic time period in the chronology of the Forgotten Realms Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting. Taking place during the Year of Shadows, 1358 DR, the Time of Troubles was a period during which the gods of Faerûn were forced to walk the earth in their mortal avatar forms. Several major deities died during the Time of Troubles, and a handful of mortals rose to divinity.
  • The Time of Troubles, also known as the Arrival, the Godswar and the Avatar Crisis, was a cataclysmic time period in the chronology of Faerûn. Taking place during 1358 DR, the Year of Shadows, the Time of Troubles was a period during which the deities of Faerûn were forced to walk the earth in their mortal avatar forms. Several major deities died during the Time of Troubles (see Deaths, Ascensions, and Resurrections) and a handful of mortals rose to divinity.
  • The Time of Troubles was a cataclysmic time period when the gods were forced to walk the earth in their mortal avatar forms. It was caused by Myrkul and Bane when they stole the Tablets of Fate from Lord Ao. When no deity would accept responsibility for the theft, Ao banished all deities to the Material Plane until the tablets were retrieved. Many deities, like Myrkul, were slain during the events, while others like Cyric rose to apotheosis as a result.
  • During the Age of Apostasy the Red Guard fought a savage civil war referred to euphemistically as the Time of Troubles. Their histories hint of an Adversary who sparked the conflict, and recent thought is that the Adversary is the Agrippa Sector's Morpheus Vrool.
  • The Time of Troubles is a background element in the events of Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. It is the ultimate reasoning behind the entire plotline of these games. The Time of Troubles was a period of great upheaval and turmoil in Faerûn, as Ao the Overgod, grew angry at the other gods and cast them from their homes in the Outer Planes to instead walk Toril as mortals. During these times, several gods perished, amongst them Bhaal, Myrkul and Mystra, and new gods were raised to take their place from mortals.

Bhaal foresaw the Time of Troubles, and took precautions beforehand in an effort to safeguard his portfolio. Taking on myriad mortal guises, he roamed Faerûn, siring sons and daughters amongst many different races; from humans to giants, orcs to elves. These children, known as Bhaalspawn, would bear a sliver of Bhaal's essence within them so, should Bhaal perish, then these children would die, and their souls would fuse together to recreate their father. One of these Bhaalspawn, the ward of a sage named Gorion, rose beyond Bhaal's expectations. Whilst other Bhaalspawn came up with the idea of claiming Bhaal's throne for themselves, only Gorion's Ward would go on to achieve a true success...
