Starting positions in the field of forty-eight are unknown, but McCardell struggled to a 39th place finish in the race. The other three races came in 1952, when McCardell started the year off with a solid 5th place qualifying effort at the prestigious Daytona Beach Road Course. But even then McCardell struggled as wheel issues left him 37th in the race. He would also DNF in his other two races that year, finishing 20th (a career best) at Atlanta and then 33rd at Langhorne.
