  • After the first Dragon disaster and the sudden appearance of Ds around the world, Midgard initially served as a containment facility under NIFL's jurisdiction, with Ds being essentially imprisoned there. However, after a movement to restore the human rights of Ds by the monarch of the Principality of Erlia, Albert Crest, Midgard broke ties with NIFL, becoming an independent entity under the international organization Asgard with the purpose of educating Ds until their powers disappeared. Midgard also served as a stronghold for the purpose of eliminating the Dragons by using the Ds' power.

  • Midgard is the location of the original Random Kingdom, named after the Midgard from germanic mythology, the world in which the human race resides. The pretty clear information on its geography would hint at the second option.

  • Midgard was the second online world to be created by Loki. It was followed by Testimonial Midgard. Midgard was made into Testimonial Midgard by Artimus releasing the first 3 seals and Loki launching the Ordeal Program. Through the Testimonial Midgard story, the events of International Ragnarok Online's story are meant to have all occurred in the Midgard time space. Loki regarded the Midgard era as the most popular and successful. Up until the Resolve Era, all events in the story occur within Midgard. It is an expansive, huge land that is made up of forestry, grass fields, cities, desert, dungeons, and sea. The technology of the civilization within Midgard incorporates steam power and uses firearms such as muskets and guns, yet still incorporates weaponry such as swords and bows. The majority of Midgard's lands, cities, and landmarks are named after Norse Mythology, and the monsters and people that populate the land often will have a norse mythology theme behind them. It is believed that somewhere above Midgard is Valhalla and The Ragnarok. Below Midgard is the Static Dungeon.
  • Midgard was an attempt by Jon Reeves to create a vast, cross-genre mythos around the Creatures 2 games. It interconnected with the events of all three Creatures games, introduced several new Shee-created species (most notable of which was the Jotun) and spanned several thousand years in total. As mentioned in the Scorpio Norn origin story, the Shee had other worlds that they used for experimentation. They covered a range of environments and climates, as to allow the Shee to "test" their creations better. Some were short-lived experiments to see if different types of disc world life could cope on spherical worlds, others were longer, more ongoing experiments. Only a few worlds managed to survive after the Shee relocation: Albia, Hades, Avalon, Olympia, Terra Nornia, Elyssia and Midgard. Albia, Hades and Terra Nornia were disc worlds, all of which degraded in some way after the Shee left. Albia suffered a volcanic eruption that destablised the whole planet until it was revived. Hades remained a vast, untamed desert that was very unforgiving to the Norns it harboured. Terra Nornia was left as a complete wilderness, untouched until the Handish converted it for their own purposes. Avalon, Olympia and Elyssia were spherical worlds, inhabited by small, scattered Nornish groups. Avalon was, quite rightly, called the "garden world" after its beautiful meadows and groves. Olympia was a world of mountains and oceans, covered in vast archipelagoes stretching as far as the eye could see, and also inhabited by small enclaves of Norns. Elyssia was covered from pole to pole in lucious jungle, making it the greenest and most fertile planet for lightyears. However, these three as well all suffered disasters, far worse than those which affected the disc worlds. Avalon was lost to the Borg Norns, who replaced the natural gardens with endless metal hives, turning the planet into a vast base for their Collective. Olympia was lost forever when an alien ship impacted its sun, causing it to go nova and wipe out the entire system in a catclysm of fire and fury. Last, Elyssia was invaded by the alien Fiends, giant amorphous blobs that live only to feed on whatever organic matter they can find. The planet was left a bare, lifeless rock drifting in space. Midgard, however, was different, and avoided whatever disaster fate may have had in store for it. It was the creation of Jal'ak Kal'is, known as the Golden Shee. Unlike most Shee, who were blue-skinned, Jal'ak possessed a near-luminous yellow skin, as well as a massive intellect still unrivaled by any of his contemporaries. Despite his brilliance, he was derided by the scientific community for his wild theories on prehistoric Albia and the importance of the old religions now long forgotten in the wake of science and logic.

Undead are also present on Midgard, even though their natural habitat is Niflheim, and are presided by their lord Brahms, from his castle situated on an island off the West coast of the continent. Midgard is strongly subjected to the gods' influence, and thus has a troubled history. Odin and the Aesir perceive humans as tools for their struggle against the undead and the Vanir, and one of the three Valkyries is always active on Midgard to collect worthy human souls to serve as Einherjar, while the souls of the two other Valkyries lie dormant within human hosts. Odin is also more than willing to trigger wars (cf. Rosetta's invasion of the continent) and destroy entire cities or settlements to punish what he perceives as disobedience (cf. the Tehm tribe, Dipan). He also claims the Dragon Orb, the treasure responsible for sustaining Midgard, for himself on two different occasions, thus endangering the stability of the entire world. Midgard is destroyed by Loki at the end of Valkyrie Profile, but subsequently restored by Lenneth, as she gains the power of creation.

Still, the coasts brim with Walruses and there are enormous amounts of fish to gather, so it is recommended to focus food production on the sea, as it is more difficult to exploit the resources on land, as Workers are highly vulnerable to raiders. Offensive major gods are privileged here, thanks to the very close quarters of fighting, even on large maps, and thanks to the open spaces, as are gods with naval advantages, such as Odin (who provides four gods with naval advantages).
