| abstract | - Shikamaru has been made the new leader of the Nara Clan, much to the jealousy of Kaito. In an act of retaliation, Kaito digs up Hidan and attempts to defect from the village. Shikamaru, with the help of Naruto attempt to stop Kaito and Hidan from escaping, but Kaito and Hidan receive backup from Kuro Tanzi and Meito. Kuro Tanzi leads the team of rogue shinobi too take over the village of Yugakure, whom he along with hidan are angered by for abandoning its shinobi roots. Tsunade sends Naruto, Sakura, and Sai to restore the original Yugakure government. Along the way there they are caught in an ambush by Kaito's Shadow Imitation Technique. Hidan is about to kill them when Shikamaru arrives and undoes the jutsu. He and Sakura stay behind to fight Kaito and Hidan. They manage to outsmart them and capture Hidan and Kaito, whom Shikamaru wishes to oversee the punishment of personally. He reburies Hidan in the same area along with Kaito. Naruto and Sai go on ahead, when they both seem to be battling Kuro. They soon realize that they were placed under Meito's Mind's Eye Seal and were actually fighting each other. After escaping the genjutsu Sai stays behind to fight Meito. Meito reveals she is glad to fight Sai, as he took part in defeating her idol Deidara during the Fourth Shinobi War. She manages to use her seals to paralyze his limbs, and is about to kill him. He manages to use his tongue as a brush on the roof of his mouth and is able to kill her with a surprise attack from one of his artistic creations. Naruto finally reaches and battles Kuro Tanzi. Kuro uses his powerful "Blood Style" kekkei genkai to battle Naruto. Naruto manages to hold off each his attacks with his Shadow Clones until Kuro activates his Blood Style: Antibodies, which seek out Naruto specifically and attempts to disintegrate him. Naruto uses the Nine Tails cloak to protect himself and defeat Kuro Tanzi. Yugakure is successfully restored.
