  • The Vikings were a Germanic Norse seafaring people from the late eighth to early 11th century who established a name for themselves as traders, explorers and warriors. They discovered the Americas long before Columbus and could be found as far east as the distant reaches of Russia. While these people are often attributed as savages raiding the more civilized nations for treasure and women, the motives and culture of the Viking people are much more diverse. These raiders also facilitated many changes throughout the lands from economics to warfare.

Teema julkaistiin vuoden 2005 syyskuussa yksinomaan Euroopan markkina-alueelle mutta sitä alettiin myymään seuraavana jouluna myös Pohjois-Amerikan markkinoilla. Teema lopettiin vuonna 2007. Teemaan kuuluvissa seteissä seikkailivat viikingit, jotka taistelivat erilaisia mytologiastaan tuttuja olentoja vastaan, aina Fenriksestä lohikäärmeisiin. Taustatarinaa ei teemassa yllättäen ollut vaikka muut samoihin aikoihin myynnissä olleet teemat (esimerksiksi vuoden 2004 Spider-Man ja vuoden 2006 Exo-Force) pohjautuivat vahvasti taustatarinoihinsa.

These versatile ships allowed the Vikings to travel as far east as Constantinople and the Volga River in Russia, as far west as Iceland, Greenland, and Newfoundland, and as far south as Nekor. This period of Viking expansion, known as the Viking Age, constitutes an important element of the medieval history of Scandinavia, Great Britain, Ireland, Russia, and the rest of Europe. Popular conceptions of the Vikings often differ from the complex picture that emerges from archaeology and written sources. A romanticised picture of Vikings as noble savages began to take root in the 18th century, and this developed and became widely propagated during the 19th-century Viking revival. The received views of the Vikings as violent brutes or intrepid adventurers owe much to the modern Viking myth that had taken shape by the early 20th century. Current popular representations are typically highly clichéd, presenting the Vikings as familiar caricatures.

As such, Vikings are extremely dangerous units, and if left unmolested can be used to generate loot from damaged buildings in a short time, but can be countered easily — cavalry will have a field time gaffing the life out of any witless Viking since all they are armed with are just clumsy axes. Living in a cold, inhospitable and hostile environment soon forced the Norse peoples into activities related to the sea — fishing, trading as well as piracy and raiding. These expeditions out on the sea were called víking in old Norse, and in turn the participants were called víkingr, which was then transliterated into English into "Vikings". Fuelled by an appetite for wealth and adventure, their quests took them across all of Europe and even to Byzantium and the Middle East, whose goods were highly sought in the Norse lands and elsewhere in continental Europe. And even though they were fully Christianised by the 12th century, their descendents still continued in their enterprising (and predatory ways): of these, the Normans are the most famous. Originally descended from Viking colonists settled by the King of France at the mouth of the Seine, they eventually moved on to find new homes throughout the British Isles and Southern Italy. It was by the hands of the Normans that the Second Crusade managed to prevail in Palestine at the end of that century.
