Japanese cards are written in traditional Kanji, but some cards are abbreviated using ruby text and sometimes furigana. For example: The Japanese translation to the "Number" archetype is 「No.(ナンバーズ)」. 「No.」 is the base text used as an abbreviation, while 「ナンバーズ」 is the ruby text/furigana used to translate the abbreviation.
  • Robots are built in Japan, which is also the ancestral homeland of Godzilla. Godzilla and the robots do not get along very well, but Godzilla is always triumphant. South Korea's Mechagodzilla, champion of robots, may be the only machine capable of challenging the Japanese Godzilla. Japanese people speak a language known as "Hello Kitty." How this cute language somehow spawned a culture of ninjas and samurai is anyone's guess.

It is an ab-into course meaning the subject is taken up in fifth year and completed over the course of two years however most schools include a Japanese TY module and therefore some students will have undertaken three years of study when taking the exam. Japanese is examined in much the same way as other foreign languages. There is both a higher and ordinary level exam. The marks are divided up between comprehension skills (reading and listening) producing language (speaking and writing). As it is understood that when learning a language comprehension comes faster than producing in the ordinary level paper more marks are given to reading and listening. The main difference in the examination of Japanese is in the structure of the Oral exam. Japanese is typically scheduled on the last day of the Leaving Certificate Exams and clashes with Technology and Italian. In 2009, Cork, this caused an outcry as two local students had to take three exams, one after the other, in one day. They started at 9am with Exam Religion, then Italian and finally Japanese.
