With that minor success, O'Dell competed in four other races that year, recording finishes of 25th or better in each show. His best race was a career-best 10th place finish at Martinsville in his season finale. O'Dell competed in four more events during the 1954 season, when he finished a career-high 94th in points. However, O'Dell struggled a bit during the season, only cracking the top-twenty once (a 19th at Mechanicsburg). The rest of the races didn't prove to be too bad, still finishing no worse than a 25th at Martinsville and running at the finish of three of his four starts. O'Dell didn't return to the sport until a one-off appearance in spring 1956 at Martinsville. It was a tough race for the driver, starting last (35th) and crashing early to finish 32nd. O'Dell's final career race came during the 1957 season, when he competed at Raleigh. Starting 50th in the field of fifty-three, O'Dell fell a number of laps down in the race and ended the day with a midpack 31st place showing.
