- Kuo-toa are an ancient line of aquatic humanoids noted for their sinister nature and evil tendencies. Although they are mostly isolated and left alone by the majority of intelligent creatures, some seek them out for information as the kuo-toa know much about long-forgotten, ancient evils dwelling in the deepest parts of the ocean. An average kuo-toa stands at roughly 5 feet tall, weighing 160 pounds. They are generally silver-grey, but their pigmentation can change with their mood - for example, an angered kuo-toa may appear red while a frightened one may look pale grey or white. The air around a kuo-toa carries a strong scent of rotting fish. Kuo-toa speak their own language as well as Aquan.

The air around a kuo-toa carries a strong scent of rotting fish. Kuo-toa speak their own language as well as Aquan. Tactics employed by this fish race vary greatly depending upon the training and skills of the individual encountered. A group will usually fight in formation, using throwing spears or javelins to great effectiveness, before closing in to fight in melee. They naturally secret a sticky body oil which they use to coat their shields. This oil sticks to anything, often leaving an opponent disarmed by simply blocking an attack. Kuo-toa are amphibious, although they breathe through gills, and have excellent vision thanks to two independently-focusing eyes. Their disadvantage is that bright light can leave them dazzled to the point of blindness. Kuo-toa dwell in communities above water, well supplied with with areas for recreation and breeding. They raise their young in special pools until their amphibious nature begins to develop around a year after hatching. Virtually all kuo-toa worship the strange and ancient being called the Sea Father or the Ancient One.
