Later, he fought Anakin, then known as Darth Vader, attempting to end the Sith. He defeated Vader, leaving him by the lava bank and returned to help Padmé Amidala. Obi-Wan was present, along with Bail Organa, when Padmé gave birth. He agreed to take her son, Luke Skywalker, to Tatooine to be raised by his uncle and aunt, while Obi-Wan watched over him. When Luke was nineteen, Obi-Wan called for a Krayt Dragon to rescue Luke from being attacked by Tusken Raiders. He took Luke unto his home, where R2-D2 relayed a message from Princess Leia Organa. The message was a distress call from Leia, as she was about to be executed aboard the Death Star. Obi-Wan persuaded to Luke travel with him to the Death Star to rescue Leia, giving him a lightsaber as part of persuasion. They journeyed to Mos Eisley, where they met Han Solo and Chewbacca, local smugglers, to take them to the battle station. Once on the station, Obi-Wan was struck down, accidentally turning his lightsaber on himself. He, however, continued to live on as a Force Ghost, guiding Luke down the path to a true Jedi. He appeared to Luke twice on Hoth, telling him to go to Dagobah to train with Master Yoda. He appeared to Luke several times after that, the last time being shortly after Luke completed his training.
