  • Mephistopheles is a sinister character who appears in the Nexus when your Character Tendency reaches pure Black. She will ask you to assassinate other characters, and give you a reward for each kill. When you finish, she will attack you, and upon defeating her you will obtain the Foe's Ring. Since the characters you kill will not respawn until your next playthrough, it is recommended that you do this quest right before the end of the game, and only after you have made sure that you do not need to change your miracles/magics.

  • Mephistopheles is both extremely intelligent, and extremely powerful. He will attempt to confuse opponents, or dissuade them from fighting; on the rare occasion he is forced into a fight he believes he cannot win, he will attempt to strike a bargain of some kind. When you go up against the devil, you should be prepared for defeat.
  • Mephistopheles, (or Mephisto for short) is one of Ghost Rider's main enemies and is apparently the particular devil who gave Johnny Blaze his Rider powers. He is sometimes referred to as Satan in the comics, though this designation sometimes applies to other devils such as Marduk Kurios, Satannish, and Thog (see article on Satan for further details). He is also the father of Blackheart and responsible for many of Ghost Rider's problems. He created the anti-hero Suicide, and helped awaken the power of Ghost Rider's future ally Vengeance.

  • Mephistopheles is a demonic figure from German folklore who was made famous in the legend of the German magician Dr. Johann Georg Faust (simply known as Faust) but would become a stock character in Germanic literature as a type of folk-devil and a personification of evil. His name is also another alias for The Devil.
  • Mephistopheles is the father of Blackheart who tricked Johnny Blaze into selling his soul, which turned him into Ghost Rider.
  • Mephistopheles, the King of Hell, was a character on Xena: Warrior Princess. He was the Royal Ruler of Hell, until Xena killed him and forced Lucifer to take her place as the rightful ruler of Hell. Mephistopheles ordered Callisto to kill Julius Caesar and make Xena follow the path of peace that Gabrielle was following at the time, in order to have a chance of resurrection. She failed and inadvertantly caused their deaths, which led to Mephistopheles to turning her into an Archdemon. Mephistopheles remained silent during Callisto's subsequent redemption and a demonic Xena's failed invasion of Heaven- it is not clear to what, if any extent, these events fitted into his plans.

He proceeds to raise an army, fighting his way to Waterdeep. His plan is to rule the Nine Hells by creating a tenth, with Toril being the intended location. At the end of the campaign, there are four possible fates dealt to Mephistopheles by the player — to be banished from Toril, to be banished to Cania, to accept the hero as a co-ruler of the Hells of Baator, or to accept the hero as the sole ruler of the Hells of Baator. Either of the banishments can be accomplished by defeating him in combat, which is made more difficult since he has damage resistance to elemental damage (not including acid damage), negative energy damage and magical damage. For the other outcomes (or an easier banishment), it is necessary to acquire his true name from the Knower of Names.

Historians claim that the Hegemony of early 2000's United States is well alive in the twenty-fourth century, and Captain Chahal famously theorized during 7 Days a Skeptic that he thought the purpose of his scouting mission was to find a planet inhabited by a population of brown beings so the EF could bomb it from orbit. Returning to ship design, we find many elements which are puzzling. Gravity inside and around the ship seems to work in a way best described by "however Yahtzee needed it to work at the time." Through no adequately explored means, the ship generates gravity in a top-down fashion, drawing objects to its floor. This gravitic effect, however is not present at the sides of the ship, where intrepid heros must attach themselves to a railing for fear of instantly losing their entire skeleton. Once one reaches the top of the ship, however, gravity returns. Carl Summers, a famous engineering professor from Ganymede University, questions the ship's engineering certification. Despite the information above, a quick comparison of the size of the observation deck, the size of the whole ship, and the size of a man suggests that the Mephistopheles can accodmodate a crew of several hundred. Why the EF would commision such a large ship for a scouting mission is anyone's guess, but rumors among intelligence circles suggest that the ship was severely understaffed in hopes that its crew would be slaughtered by a possible population of brown beings. For this purpose, only the most inept, dull and mentally incompetent were rounded up for the mission. In the same vein, ship engineers question the decision of building three escape pods on a ship that can house hundreds, often reasserting the rumors that the EF is willing to make martyrs of its soldiers. As well, ship design specialists have criticised the Mephisto builders' decision to only place one railing on the reactor core room's walkway. There have been 38 reported deaths due to this design choice as of 2380.
  • Mephistopheles, also known as the Lord of No Mercy and the Cold Lord, is the lord of Cania, the eighth of the Nine Hells. He was the main opponent of Baalzebul during the Reckoning of Hell, and still holds a claim to his own layer. He seeks to take Baalzebul's layer away from him, that he may gain enough power to one day challenge Asmodeus for rulership of all the Nine Hells. Mephistopheles is something of a walking contradiction. Unstable and thoroughly wicked, he presents multiple faces to those he meets. On the one hand, he can be charming, erudite, and civil. But beneath the veneer of respectability is a vicious temper and unchecked ambition. He is patient and cunning, yet when alone, he flies into a fury, screaming and shrieking, tearing at his skin and destroying everything around him in a thunderous explosion of hellfire and devastating magic. He has one goal, one reason for existence: He covets Asmodeus’s throne. It is, in his mind, his destiny to rule the Nine Hells. So confident is he that he has told this to Asmodeus himself. One would think that such arrogance would be reason enough for the Lord of the Ninth to bring this archdevil to heel, but curiously, Asmodeus hasn’t. It seems he’s content to let Mephistopheles have his delusions. Mephistopheles' naked ambition and haughtiness does not sit well with his peers. Some are drawn to his power, such as Dispater, but most despise him, seeing him as an unstable and unpredictable element in the Hells’ convoluted politics. Among his enemies, Baalzebul is his greatest. The Lord of Lies has long opposed his every effort. So long as Baalzebul lives, Mephistopheles spends his time hatching plots to eliminate his ancient rival, leaving Asmodeus secure in his position as the Lord of the Nine Hells. Despite his distractions, Mephistopheles still poses a grave threat. He commands legions of ice devils as well as the pit fiends, barbazu, and cornugons that have flocked to his banner. In addition, it falls to him to protect the only gate into Nessus, so he nominally commands the army whose sole duty it is to safeguard Asmodeus’s realm. To make matters worse, he has mastered the essence of Hell, channeling it into a foul destructive energy called hellfire. With such tools at his disposal, it seems Mephistopheles will one day make good on his promise to rule in Asmodeus’s stead. Thankfully, Mephistopheles does not exert the same influence on the Prime Material Plane. Many mortals confuse him and Asmodeus, believing they are one in the same. This frustrates Mephistopheles to no end; above all, he wants to be worshiped as a god. Still, he has a number of small cults that revere him as the god of hellfire. He also attracts disaffected devilworshipers, stealing individuals from other archdevils. His temples are strange places, hidden and out of the way. Decorated with fire pits, they are unbearably hot and the pits are rigged so that they flare up during ceremonies at the most dramatic moments. The cultists meet to perform sacrifices, binding their living victim on a blackened altar and immolating him alive. His screams add the chorus to their silent prayers.

She failed and inadvertantly caused their deaths, which led to Mephistopheles turning her into an Archdemon (as either a promotion or punishment, depending on perspective). Mephistopheles remained silent during Callisto's subsequent redemption and a demonic Xena's failed invasion of Heaven – it is not clear to what, if any extent, these events fitted into his plans. Some time during Xena and Gabrielle's 25-year sleep, Mephistopheles opened a portal to Hell in Cyrene's tavern, releasing the minions of Hell onto the village. The townspeople believed Cyrene to be mad, when they became convinced that the spirits came from her. They burnt her at the stake as a witch, in a false belief that it would rid Ampihpolis of the spirits - but it didn't. When Xena, Gabrielle and Eve returned to Amphipolis after the 25-year sleep, they discovered Cyrene's tavern to be filled with evil spirits. Upon finding her mother's charred remains, she vowed to return Amphipolis to it's normal state and avenge her death. Mephistopheles could not be beaten in Hell or the Spritual Realm and so he had to be bought to the surface world. He requested a mere droplet of the Mesenger of Eli, Eve. She was more the willing to spill blood to allow Xena to defeat and end his reign of terror. Once on the surface, Mephistopheles and Xena fight. He tells her that if she were to kill him, then she will take his place as the rightful ruler of Hell - a fate she was willing to take. She impales him with her sword and begins to fall victim to the grasp of the prophecy. In order to avoid her inevitable fate, Xena hatched a plan to force someone else to take her place - namely an Archangel, Lucifer. She forced him to cave into the Seven Deadly Sins, which made him transform into a hideous beast and become the new King of Hell. Mephistopheles has goat like legs, big devilish horns, is red coloured, has a devil trident, and uses the strategy of slaying races then raising them as slaves to fight in his army as a means of conquest. As such his personality is untrusting, sadistic (he likes to make others suffer), power hungry, and bullheaded. It is ultimately his arrogance and inability to trust his true love that leads to his undoing.
