- Great Sword is one of Siegfried's weapons in Soulcalibur IV. It, along with Soul Calibur, is available by default. It has Alignment equipped by default as a skill, which increases or decreases the player's stats depending on the opponent's alignment. Its appearance is similar to Edge Master's No Name Zweihänder in Soulcalibur IV, but it has the appearance of a nodachi in Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny and in Soulcalibur V.
- Great Swords require a certain amount of experience to wield properly and master. To a novice, they may seem very slow and unwieldy. However, in the hands of an experienced hunter, they can prove very useful with a very nice damage output. See the Videos section ahead, as there are tutorials on becoming a Great Sword master.

* Great Swords provide hunters with shielding capabilities by pressing the 'R' button. The downside of this involves losing sharpness with each shielded attack; the amount of sharpness lost is thought to be the equivalent of a bounced attack. Carrying Whetstones to spare is strongly adviced.
* The Vertical Slash can be 'quickdrawn'. This means that if you are walking or running and press Triangle, you will quickly attack with the vertical slash. This is the Great Sword's fastest attack.
* The Vertical Slash can also be charged. Pressing and holding Triangle will begin this charge, taking approximately 3-4 seconds to reach full power. The charge has three levels of increasing power, with the third having a high damage output capable of knocking down a monster in flight.
* Due to the breadth of the Great Sword, its horizontal slash is useful for clearing small monsters. This can, however, be a hindrance in multiplayer quests as it can very easily hit fellow hunters.
* The Upward Slash can literally send fellow hunters flying if hit. Used properly, this can save a teammate from monsters' attacks (they will not receive damage from this, and they will be invulnerable while in flight).
* The Great Sword has its own damage system based on which part of the blade is in contact. The bottom and tip of the blade are weakest, while the center has the highest damage output.
* All three slashing attacks can be chained together, but no two same slashes consecutively. For example, after slashing vertically (Triangle), either the horizontal (Circle) or the upward slash (Triangle+Circle) can be performed, but not the vertical slash. However, chaining an upward slash and a vertical slash causes a lengthy delay between each attack.
* Hunters can roll forward or to the side after each attack, offering the option for hit and run tactics. This can be done to avoid the delays following each attack.
* As with many other weapon types, watching the Great Sword's attacks will indicate a monster's weak points. If the slash flows cleanly through a monster, it is not a weak point. Conversely, if the slash seems to move in slow motion while in contact, the point is weak.
* With the Great Sword unsheathed, pressing SELECT will perform a quick frontal kick. This kick is much faster than its sheathed counterpart and is particularly useful for keeping pesky mobs at bay, such as the 'Preys.
* In MH3, the Great Sword gained a new attack where in the hunter slaps the monster with the side of the blade, causing impact damage.
* In MH4 the Great Sword gained a new attack where after a curved level 3 Slash or a ledge attack the hunter will do a powerful horizontal attack, the drawback however, is that when the hunter does this move, you can NOT roll out of it.
* The Great Sword also gained the ability to go from a side swipe to a curved level 3 slash.

- The Great Sword is a Rank 2 two-handed long sword. Equivalent ethereal version: Great Sword.
- A Great Sword is a Long Sword-class weapon available in both Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. In the first game it is bought in the towns Tolbi, Lunpa, and Lalivero and in the second it is bought in the towns Apojii Islands and Contigo. Being a Long Sword-class weapon, a Great Sword can be equipped on Isaac, Garet, Felix, and Piers. It increases the wielder's base Attack rating by 90 points, and is therefore the strongest and most expensive common weapon in either game. Its buy value is 7000 coins and its sell value is 5250 coins. In Golden Sun, Great Swords are the strongest common weapon in any shop. However, it's entirely possible it will never be bought and equipped because at Tolbi Springs you can redeem your Lucky Medals to acquire all sorts of strong weapon and armor artifacts, including the Assassin Blade which is a Light Blade-class weapon with the exact amount of attack as a Great Sword and a deadly Unleash effect, and these items can be won as prizes without having to pay a single coin for them. Ideally, the party should outfit itself with the superior equipment at Tolbi Springs with all its Lucky Medals before even shopping around at the normal vendors. In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, much of the game's focus is on completing puzzles in the dungeon-style locations that provide as rewards weapon artifacts far superior to commonly bought weapons and even weapon artifacts that can normally be bought in vendors, so you should not buy and equip this weapon because you can find and buy stronger artifacts easily in the Great Eastern Sea quite easily even before reaching Apojii Islands. Note that if this game is being played without any data transfer or with a Password that's either Bronze or Silver-level, when Isaac's party joins Felix Isaac will be equipped with a Great Sword, which is of course far inferior to the equipment Felix's party will surely have amassed by that point.

The best combo for you to use is horizontal to downswing, because if you upswing you will usually wind up launching your teammates away and we will hate you forever (Emiya.) Learn to cancel your post-attack animations by rolling. You can roll forward or to either side after you finish the attack, it saves the time it takes for your fat ass to pick up the sword and ready it. A good trick to use when fighting wyverns is to stand under where they land and time a charge hit so that it hits them as they land, this has a chance of knocking them over or disrupting their balance for a short moment. One problem I see with alot of GS users is that they get really greedy with combos because combos can go indefinitely. Your ability to live is more important than how much damage you output. If you stick around for an extended combo and get your shit rocked and fail the mission, that falls entirely at your feet. Learn to roll out of the way.
