  • Unlike a military, a militia was comprised of mainly civilian fighters with other occupations rather than career officers. In 2269, Spock's giant clone assured Captain James T. Kirk that unlike Stavos Keniclius 5' original plan, there would be no master race or (peace-keeping) militia composed of giant Spocks. (TAS: "The Infinite Vulcan") In a version of the script for Star Trek: First Contact, Resurrection City (also unused) was said to have a militia, the Resurrection Protective Force.

  • Militia are the townspeople of Alruco organized into an armed, irregular force of fighters to defend towns and installations the player liberates in Jagged Alliance 2 . Militia are armed in a variety of ways from pistols and revolvers to rifles and SMGs. Some militia also have grenades and knives. Besides defence, militia also cause any enemy troops in squares adjacent to the town they are in to appear. They also raise loyally in the town. The equation for Training Militia is:
  • Unlike the Peasant Levies which are recruited merely to round out numbers, Militia are a more professional caste of warrior, meant to function in a myriad of ways, although they still perform atrociously against more professional knightly cavalry. Nevertheless, their being kitted out with sword and shield usually means that they deal more damage than a bunch of unruly peasants armed with only axes and pitchforks, and their use of a shield means that they are better as assault infantry when attacking enemy siege weapons, spearmen and buildings. Militia are common in the armies of smaller European states which have neither the time nor resources to institute military traditions which can raise these men from mere freeholders into terrifying killing machines.
  • A militia (File:Loudspeaker.svg /mɨˈlɪʃə/), or irregular army, generally refers to an army or other fighting force that is composed of non-professional fighters; citizens of a nation or subjects of a state or government that can be called upon to enter a combat situation, as opposed to a professional force of regular soldiers or, historically, members of the fighting nobility. Some of the ways the term is used include:

  • Militia are Citizens or Scholars armed with primitive melee weapons like axes, torches, and pitchforks. Once a nation has advanced to the Classical Age and developed Militia at a Tower, a new button To Arms! appears in each citizen's and scholar's control panel, which converts the unit to militia. Militia units have a button Civilian, which converts the unit back to civilian form. Converting civilians into Militia and vice versa takes a few moments (0.33 seconds), in which an orange progress bar appears above the unit.
  • Militia is currently set up in towns as 4 people who protect the town against revolts. They are hired each day by the mayor and they can hire each day anywhere between 0 - 4 people. If a valid threat has been accessed, the mayor will often request people to form groups and click "defend the power" which will basically act just like the militia however it will not pay wages. Militia wages can range from 15 to 20 pounds though often unless the mayor is quite desperate, 15 pounds is solid standard. With this in mind, even with this in mind, bein in the Militia requires no stats of levels and unlike players field jobs will instantly grant the person a job for that day.
  • The workers of the Human Alliance can be converted into militia when the need arises, when the Call to Arms is sounded. Peasants of the Alliance have the ability to arm themselves at any town hall so that they can better fight off invading armies. Though the peasants are capable of saving their towns from surprise attacks on their towns, they are always glad to give up their weapons and go back to their regular duties.
  • A militia generally refers to an army or other fighting force that is composed of non-professional fighters; citizens of a nation or subjects of a state or government that can be called upon to enter a combat situation, as opposed to a professional force of regular, full-time soldiers. Historically, members of a fighting nobility class (e.g., knights or the samurai) could be considered an early form of militia. This is because their duties often extended beyond the realm of combat, into civic roles. Some of the ways the term "militia" is used include:

  • Militia are a type of militia in Empire: Total War.
Militiamen can be raised in towns and SAM sites by having a mercenary assigned to training> militia on the map screen. They cost $750 per training session and the trainer merc must have a leadership stat greater than zero. Up to two mercs may train militia in the same sector. Training generally takes a day or two per session depending on leadership. Militia can only be trained if the town’s loyally is 20% or higher. High leadership and the teaching skill accelerates the militia training. One session of training results in ten militia. Continuing training after the town reaches its maximum 20m militia will upgrade the militia from rookie to regular. Once the town reaches 20 regular militia, no more training can take place. Besides defence, militia also cause any enemy troops in squares adjacent to the town they are in to appear. They also raise loyally in the town. The equation for Training Militia is: (LDR + WIS + (LVL * 10)) / 2.5, rounded to nearest integer, for Teaching add 30% (times 1.3) before rounding, for Teaching Expert add 60% (times 1.6) before rounding.

Militia are common in the armies of smaller European states which have neither the time nor resources to institute military traditions which can raise these men from mere freeholders into terrifying killing machines. Nations of Europe with Germanic roots, such as France and the German kingdoms are able to raise Feudal Retinue, a sword unit capable of high training time and with some added armour as well, making it a fairly powerful unit for your Dark Age needs. In contrast, Asian culture does not look kindly on training peasants in the fine art of swordplay, yet alone equipping them well, and so conscripted peasants and other undesirables are often given an old sword and sent to die at the front lines as suicide soldiers. It is true that these units train much faster than the Feudal Retinue of nations such as England or Spain, yet these units are much weaker than normal militia and will die fairly easily unless escorted properly. The first few centuries of the post-Roman era were highly turbulent times for many communities throughout Europe, which often found themselves at the mercy of several different enemies, and it was thus natural that sooner or later a body of chosen men would be required to supply the strong arms which was needed to ensure survival. Unlike common conscripted levies which were called up only for a single campaign, militias were fulltime, semi-professional armed men who were supposed to be ready for combat at all times, even in peace. The most famous of these institutions was the Anglo-Saxon fyrd, which was first introduced by Alfred the Great, and which continued to survive in some form or the other well throughout the Mediaeval Era.

However, beginning as early as the late-20th century, some militias (particularly officially recognized and sanctioned militas of a government) may be considered professional forces, while still maintaining their status as a "part-time" or "on-call" organization. For instance, the members of the various Army and Air National Guard units of the United States are considered professional Soldiers and Airmen, respectively. Said Soldiers and Airmen are trained to, and maintain, the exact same standards as their "full-time" (active duty) counterparts. Therefore, these professional militia men and women of the National Guard of the United States are colloquially know as "Citizen-Soldiers" or "Citizen-Airmen". Some of the ways the term "militia" is used include: * Defense activity or service, to protect a community, its territory, property, and laws. * The entire able-bodied population of a community, town, county, or state, available to be called to arms. * A subset of these who may be legally penalized for failing to respond to a call-up. * A subset of these who actually respond to a call-up, regardless of legal obligation. * A private, non-government force, not necessarily directly supported or sanctioned by its government. * An official reserve army, composed of citizen soldiers. Called by various names in different countries such as; the Army Reserve, National Guard, or state defense forces. * The national police forces in several former communist states such as the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact countries, but also in the non-aligned SFR Yugoslavia. The term was inherited in Russia, and other former CIS countries. See: Militia (Police). * In France the equivalent term "Milice" has become tainted due to its use by notorious collaborators with Nazi Germany.[citation needed] * A select militia is composed of a small, non-representative portion of the population, often politicized.[citation needed]

It also then shows the new templates in Galaxy Forge and they can be edited. I think the problem is theres no way to set the owner to RandomMilitia within the editor, so it has to be done manually. You can also spawn different races as militia, 'Psi:' is Advent, 'Phase:' is Vasari and 'Tech:' is TEC. You can get the unit types/names from within Galaxy Forge, listed on the right when you edit a planet. open up the .galaxy file, find the planet def, This will add a planet with the Kol, Sova, Akkan, and Marza capital ships. These sorts of militia changes should be possible with the template system by defining new templates in ...\Sins of a Solar Empire\GameInfo\GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef and using them in the .galaxy file (or even through the Forge tool) , but my initial testing with that didn't do well. DClick on the planet then make a new scenario template and add 3 groups to it one for each race (if you want one for each) and in thoes groups you put the race/ship/mdule combos you want the planet to start with. Then you highlight the new template and click apply to current planet. template templateName "RandomMilitia" subTemplates 0 groups 1 group condition type "Always" param "" owner "RandomMilitia" colonizeChance 1.000000 items 23 item "Tech:Module:CrystalExtractor" item "Tech:Module:CrystalExtractor" item "Tech:Module:MetalExtractor" item "Tech:Module:MetalExtractor" item "Tech:Module:CombatLab" item "Tech:Module:NonCombatLab" item "Tech:Module:CultureCenter" item "Tech:Module:FrigateFactory" item "Tech:Module:CapitalShipFactory" item "Tech:Module:HangarDefense" item "Tech:Module:GaussDefense" item "Tech:Module:RepairPlatform" item "Tech:Frigate:AntiFighter" item "Tech:Frigate:Carrier" item "Tech:Frigate:Colony" item "Tech:Frigate:Heavy" item "Tech:Frigate:Light" item "Tech:Frigate:LongRange" item "Tech:Frigate:Siege" item "Tech:Frigate:Utility0" item "Tech:Frigate:Utility1" item "Tech:Frigate:Constructor" item "Tech:Frigate:Constructor" "RandomMilitia" is the term in sins for the independent colonies that do NOT expand, but do defend their GW; it is NOT for players.
  • Militia is one of T-Bone's outfits in Watch Dogs: Bad Blood.
  • Militia is the activity of one or more citizens organized to provide defense or paramilitary service, or those engaged in such activity. The word can have five somewhat different meanings: * Defense activity, as well as those engaged in it, when it is defense of the public, its territory, property, and laws * The entire able-bodied male population of a community, town, or state, which can be called to arms against an invading enemy, to enforce the law, or to respond to a disaster * A private, non-government force, not necessarily directly supported or sanctioned by its government * An official reserve army, composed of citizen soldiers, also called an Army Reserve, National Guard, or State Defense Forces * The national police forces in Russia, and other former CIS countries, or the former Soviet Union: Militsiya In any of these cases, a militia is distinct from a regular army. It can serve to supplement the regular military, or it can oppose it, for example to resist a military coup. In some circumstances, the "enemies" against which a militia is mobilized are domestic political opponents of the government, such as strikers. In many cases the role, or even the existence of a militia, is controversial. For these reasons legal restrictions may be placed on the mobilization or use of militia. Central to the complete concept of "militia" as used by the Founders was that it be "well-regulated", which meant well-trained and well-organized, but not necessarily by government. Thus, the term would not have been properly used to refer to an armed, unruly mob, but only to persons who behave in a responsible, law-enforcing mode, and who might act to control an armed, unruly mob as an "insurrection". In recent times there has developed what appears to be a campaign to stigmatize the term by having journalists and others apply the term to unsavory armed groups. A leading organization in this effort has been the Anti-Defamation League, which has been criticized for doing so.

Militia strength is a 1:2 ratio. Each Militiamen can protect the town against 2 revolters. Meaning with a full militia force protecting the town, it would take 9 revolters (8 to take down the 4 militia and 1 to actually overthrow the town hall) to take over the town. Militias rarely see action, however since it is pretty much impossible to determine any formidable threat within the towns travelers or even upset towns folk. It is often a very important safe guard. While Militias are very good against revolters, they are almost no match against any armed forces that might wish to take the town. As armies factor in both strength, weapons, and armors.

  • A militia was a fighting force composed mainly of citizens of a town or city that had agreed to take up arms and defend the lives of their fellow citizens in the event that their home was threatened. • The Militia is a right-wing, anti-government terrorist group led by Vietnam veteran Nate Meineke. Based in a bunker in Woodbridge Forrest in northern California, they also have links to Mexico. The entire militia is wiped out when they are killed with a bomb by the Sons of Anarchy.
By converting civilians into militia, they gain increased attack strength (+6), armor (+1) and line of sight (+4 tiles). That doesn't mean much, however, as Militia still remains inferior even to Ancient Age Slingers. Militia also have 50 HP compared to the base Citizen's 40 HP. However, once the Militia upgrade is researched, all Citizens automatically have their HP increased to 50 HP, so converting a Citizen to Militia does not increase its HP; this is more a benefit to the Citizen unit in general. Converting civilians into Militia and vice versa takes a few moments (0.33 seconds), in which an orange progress bar appears above the unit.

In terms of fighting potential, militiamen are a step up from peasants — they have answered a call to arms and have gathered in the town hall, where they received armor and weapons. Beneath the leather and steel, however, they are still the same untrained farmers and laborers. Peasants become militia only when their commanders are desperate. At first glance you take the man for a warrior, standing in his armor and hefting his sword. Then you notice how poorly the armor fits him, and how awkwardly he carries his battered blade. A cloak covers his shoulders, but his head is bare; the expression on his face, more fear than anything else, confirms your suspicions. This man is no soldier. Peasants sometimes receive rudimentary military training, and with some armor over their bodies and a weapon in their hands, some of them even remember it. Militiamen still charge but stop a pace or two away in order to attack. Most of them realize just how little their armor truly protects them and still run away when faced with a clearly superior foe.
