abstract
  • The servant of Sethra Lavode. His full title is given as "Dri'Chazik a Tukknaro Dzur". His name is also sometimes given as "Chaz". His appearance is described as being a rather short Dragaeran of middle years. His face gives the impression of a member of the House of Teckla, though he typically wears clothing of a Dzur and has been described in some of the books as a Tsalmoth. He has thick, black eyebrows. He is noted to be an excellent cook, to make a mean cup of klava, and to be a faithful servant, if not the most jovial or personable companion. It is also implied that he is something of a sorcerer himself, although not as subtle or as skilled as Sethra Lavode. Sethra tells Morrolan that Tukko has some talent in teaching, and indeed Tukko quickly (within a week) teaches Morrolan to read the Dragaeran written language. Tukko is very old, possibly older than Sethra, whom he calls "young one," much to her annoyance. Indeed, when questioned directly as to Sethra's age, he has responded with "Younger than I am", emphasizing the literalness of his meaning. (Then again, on another occasion Sethra has also enigmatically responded that Tukko is "Younger than I am".) Whether his apparent trembling is caused by the infirmity of age is in doubt—Vlad notes at one point that Tukko always appears to be shaking, but never spills any klava. At one point it's suggested that Tukko may even be an avatar of Dzur Mountain itself. Tukko advised Sethra on matters arcane, including reminding her of the old prophecy that inspired the Enchantress to give Blackwand to Morrolan. He also assists her in keeping the Jenoine from entering the world. Paarfi suggested that Sethra believed Tukko to be the author of the Book of the Seven Wizards, which also seemed to be confirmed by Tukko. But as with so much else close to Sethra, the truth is shrouded in mystery. See also Tukko the Jhereg. This article is a stub. You can help the Lyorn Records by adding to it.
