  • Gotthard Frantz (5 May 1888 – 21 January 1973) was a highly decorated Generalleutnant in the Luftwaffe during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Gotthard Frantz was captured by American forces at the end of the Tunisia Campaign on 13 May 1943. He was held until February 1945 when he was released due to ill health. He was later captured by Soviet troops in April and held until 1949.
