He then became head coach at Texas A&M and University of Alabama. Wagner's tenure as the head club coach at Mt. Lebanon (Pa.) Aquatics Club in suburban Pittsburgh ended in July 2008 after the United States (also known as ) File:Flag of the United States.svg Olympic Trials. He moved his family to take over the Condor Swim Club in West Nyack, N.Y., 45 minutes north of New York City, a club with more than 300 kids and a 50-meter indoor pool. Before going to USC, Wagner coached Janet Evans at the Fullerton Swim Club to her world record in the 800-meter freestyle, a record that still stands today.
