  • EX Special
rdfs:comment
  • EX Special attacks have appeared in the series since their introduction in the Street Fighter III series, with different mechanics in each appearance. However, the execution remains consistent throughout; EX Specials are performed by pressing two or more of the necessary buttons during a special move input (e.g. an EX Hadoken requires a quarter-circle forward motion and at least two punch buttons).
  • EX Special attacks are powered-up versions of special attacks. EX Special attacks are executed the same way as special attacks are, but utilize two buttons instead. Thus, any special that uses File:Button-xyz.png for its inputs, the EX version of that special would use File:Button-xyz2.png instead. Likewise, specials that use File:Button-abc.png will use File:Button-abc2.png for their EX counterparts. EX Specials are also similar to hypers in that they cost meter, but usually a lot less than a level 1 hyper would, usually between 1/2 and 1/4.

Similar mechanics exist in many other fighting games, both before and after the introduction of the EX Special in the Street Fighter series. Thus, an EX Special would be a general term for a special move that uses up a specific portion of a super meter for extra properties and/or extra damage, not to be confused with a super, which functions almost similarly depending on the game. Some games feature EX Specials as mere enhanced versions of other existing moves, or as its own move altogether (with the "Converted Moves" example seen below).
As one might expect, EX Specials sometimes deal more damage than their regular counterparts. However, EX Specials may sometimes include other properties that set them apart from their regular counterparts, among them include: * Increased damage * Altered movement * Faster startup * Faster recovery * Longer invincibility frames * Projectile invincibility * Knockdown (on specials that don't normally knock down) * Super armor * Multiple-hitting Projectiles (on projectile specials)
