  • Families can be formed by blood/birth, marriage, adoption or less formally by developing a relationship. Some of the variations that families can have are "nuclear" that is just a single parent or a couple and their children, "extended" over multiple generations with in-laws, siblings or "blended" two or more sets of children in one household after their parents marry or "connect" with other parents (half-siblings, step-children, etc.) Some family relationships are legally recognized: parent-child, marriage, adoption. Sometimes a residence is designed to support nearby or extended family living. For instance, some houses are duplex -- two adjoined homes -- or a secondary suite, also known by names like "mother-in-law" apartment. This can provide some privacy and independence in conjunction with family support.

  • In the early evening, Light Yagami is seated on his bedroom balcony taking in the evening air. Ryuk the Shinigami is lying on the bed munching an apple. Light is getting a bit bored with the big "L versus Kira" debate that has been dominating the news ever since the recent confrontation on TV. Ryuk is intrigued as to how relaxed Light is considering that every police force in the world is out to get him. With a smug smile, Light admits that he would never have undertaken the role of Kira and sought to purge the world of evil if he had not known that he would have a certain advantage over the authorities. Before Ryuk can ask about this advantage, the handle of Light's door starts to rattle. Light has made it a habit of locking his door whenever he is in his room so as not to be caught writing in the Death Note. Outside, his sister Sayu asks for help with her homework. Light quickly hides the Death Note in his desk drawer before letting her in. At 14, Sayu is three years younger than Light. As she enters the room, Ryuk, who is invisible to her, warns Light that he can be seen by anyone who touches the Death Note. Light silently curses the Shinigami for not telling him this before. Sayu picks up a copy of "Sexy Inquirer" (an adult magazine) that is lying on the floor and believes that it is why Light keeps his door locked. Snatching it back, Light says that he only bought it for an article on L and Kira. He intends to become a detective and aims to rise to the top of Japan's National Police Agency (NPA). Sayu is quite confident that he will succeed. Ryuk wonders if this ambition is the "advantage" Light mentioned earlier. But Light is only 17 and still in school, and it will be years before he can even join the police, let alone reach a senior position. Meanwhile, in an unknown location, a young man stares out of the window of a room devoid of furniture aside from a computer, monitor and other related equipment. L is thinking back to the earlier TV confrontation he had with Kira. Kira had no qualms about killing Lind L. Tailor, but he did not kill L even when challenged to do so. Could it be because he knew that Tailor was a criminal who deserved to die while L is not? Or could there be more to it than that? At that moment, Watari appears on L's computer screen and announces that a briefing of the Kira Task Force is about to begin. The Task Force occupies a large office at the headquarters of the NPA. Watari is there, along with a laptop through which L can communicate with the other investigators. Watari still wears his hat and overcoat so no one can see his face. The officers report that the majority of known deaths were of criminals whose details were available in Japan and that most of the deaths occurred between 16:00 and 02:00 Japanese time on weekdays, but varied considerably during the weekends. They have also taken calls from the public, which include possible leads that are being checked out. After the briefing, L requests that they investigate how the victims were reported in the Japanese media, including the internet. He especially wants to know if the reports included pictures or footage of the victims. The night shift gets down to work while the day shift officers make their way home. In the Yagami household, Light finishes tutoring Sayu just as they get called down to dinner. When they get downstairs, they meet their father, who has just come home from work. He is Soichiro Yagami, the head of the Kira Task Force. The Yagami family sits down for supper. Ryuk is also present, though Light is the only one who is aware of the presence of their death god house guest. Soichiro asks his children how they are doing at school. Light mutters that it is just routine; in other words, he is routinely getting straight As in every subject. Sayu also admits that school is routine, her embarrassment indicating average results. Light remarks that his father is looking rather tired, and Soichiro admits that he is dealing with a particularly difficult case. However, the lead investigator has suggested that the times of death indicate that the killer could be a student. His wife objects to this kind of conversation, but Soichiro points out that Light's insights have been useful in previous investigations. Ryuk now realizes the "advantage" Light mentioned earlier: his father is in charge of the Kira investigation and will unwittingly supply Kira, his own son, with information on its progress. Light quickly finishes his meal. Before returning to his room, he tells his mother that he would rather clean it himself in future, so she does not need to go there any more. He also tricks Sayu into admitting that he has again helped her with her homework, which is likely to get her into trouble with their parents. Once they are back in Light's room, Ryuk remarks that the police are making progress. They have already narrowed Kira's whereabouts to the Kanto region and established that he is a student. Light looks unconcerned, smugly announcing that this has always been his intention. The rules, as written in the Death Note, indicate that a victim will die of a heart attack if the writer does not specify another method of death, such as a fatal accident. If the writer does specify the cause of death, he has 6 minutes and 40 seconds to write down the details. Light reasons that if he actually does specify "heart attack" as the way a person is to die then he could also add other details and provide some variety to the killings. Over the next couple of days reports reach the Kira Task Force of convicted criminals dying of heart attacks, at the rate of one dying every hour on the hour. Some of the officers suggest that this blows the idea that Kira is a student, though it is possible that he is taking time off from school. Talking through Watari's laptop, L states that this is Kira's way of showing that he can set the time of death to whenever he wants. Privately, L is also worried. This sudden development is clearly a challenge from Kira, a way of casting doubt on the student theory, and indicates that Kira has access to police information. Meanwhile, Light and Ryuk are making their way to an old abandoned building. Light admits that he has a major dilemma. His original intention was that, in the event of anyone finding the Death Note, he would claim that it was simply full of notes he was keeping on the Kira affair. Now, if anyone does touch it, they will be able to see Ryuk. Because of this, rather than leaving it at home, Light has been keeping it with him permanently, taking it to school and back. This is a dangerous move in itself, however, and at this rate, Kira may end up having to kill his own family.

  • A family (also described as a familial connection) was a relationship between people by genetics, marriage, adoption, or an especially strong friendship. Those in a family were typically described as relatives; those that lived prior to an individual were known as ancestors, while those that lived after an individual were known as descendants. In 2374, Seven of Nine said the need for familial connections was a weakness. (VOY: "Hope and Fear") Later in 2376, Seven of Nine evolved to believe that she and Naomi Wildman said they considered each other family because they were very close friends. (VOY: "Survival Instinct") The study of these family relationships was known as genealogy. (VOY: "11:59") Familial connections varied by species, culture, gender, sexual identity, and preference. Denobulans commonly had several spouses, each of which had more spouses, and children by each. (ENT: "A Night in Sickbay") Bolian families may have likewise been polygamous. (DS9: "Field of Fire") Crews of some starships considered themselves family. In 2259 of the alternate reality, James T. Kirk expressed his joy that an orphaned Carol Marcus would be a part of the USS Enterprise's family as a regular crewmember, not merely a temporary specialist; Marcus remarked that it was nice to have a family. • Tenebrare searches for Zelix inside an empty storage room but is surprised by something unseen. Dhiar, on this late night, welcomes a visitor to the shop, only to find that it is Lapin, seriously injured. After persuading Chana to stay behind with Lapin, Dhiar ventures out into the city, to find his uncle Zelix, and to get to the bottom of what has happened. In the abandoned ruin of a large church, Dhiar finds Zelix turned to stone. Before he can discover how and why, he is surprised by Cruz, wielding a large cross as a weapon. Dhiar displays his amazing prowess in battle and proves victorious over Cruz, but just as he tries to interrogate him, a bullet rips through his shoulder. Using his thorn whip, Dhiar defends himself from the other shots, which are revealed to be darts loaded with some sort of substance and were meant to be lodged in his shoulder, rather than going through it. Dhiar soon identifies the substance as gorgon water and is suitably disgusted. However, Cruz tries to ambush and stab him from behind, an attempt foiled by Hawkye L. Narasumas, who also attacked the sniper, to stop him from further harming Dhiar. However, their reunion is cut short by the appearance of Rosa, who summons zombies to trap them in the near-to-collapse building. Chana arrives with Joshua and Lapin, in the nick of time. She uses a powerful Succubus magic, which causes a sudden musical interlude that carries Dhiar and Hawkye out of the church in a vehicle shaped like a large wiener. Lapin, meanwhile, picks up the statue of Zelix, and Chana's sharpshooting keeps the zombies at bay until they can escape. When Cruz returns to report to his master, Supreme Acolyte Ruvial Gatthies, who 'helps' him by restoring the shroud that keeps him covered in shadow. Meanwhile, Rosa faces Tenebrare, who defeats her magical abilities with ease, summoning Tamhu, who in turn defeats her. Before Cruz can attack, Dhiar and Hawkye arrive and persuade him through talking that they do not want to fight. Oscar, the sniper, then tries to start an attack, but Hawkye reasons with him, and he lowers his weapon. Dhiar and Hawkye take the trio with them upstairs, to confront Gatthies, who has prepared some sort of ritual. Gatthies, undisturbed, attempts to take control of the three by their shrouds. However, Hawkye prepared for this by adding a failsafe himself, to protect them. The shrouds are dissipated completely. Hawkye reveals that, through Deety, he knew that Ruvial Gatthies died months ago of natural causes. Dhiar puts together the rest of the clues, to determine that Gatthies's body is being used by an inhabiting lich. This revelation seems to come too late, as the Gatthies-lich summons the Lord of Abominations, an Abomination from outside the dimension. Hawkye desperately unleashes a Greater Etheric Fury, but he seems only to be able to match the massive power, not to drive it back. Oscar, Cruz, and Rosa bid farewell to Dhiar and rush into the dome of energy surrounding the ritual area, to eliminate the wards established by the lich, hoping that this will enable Hawkye to push the Lord of Abominations back. It is not enough. Tenebrare senses the planet screaming. At last, Dhiar summons his thorn whip, which turns from solid black to white, and bursts into full bloom with roses all along it. He tells Hawkye that he loves him, then disappears into the dome himself. Hawkye struggles to keep the etheric storm focused, and Tenebrare bursts in to get him to try and escape while he can. Hawkye refuses to leave without Dhiar, and then everything goes white as the energies collide and clash. When it all clears, Dhiar is standing, bloody and battered, in the ruined remains of the building, with rose petals falling down around him. Later, at Phantasies, Dhiar has been patched up and Zelix restored. Hawkye joins them to see Tenebrare and Tamhu off. The two are headed into the continuum, to rescue Cruz and the others.

The 5 families are: * Barzini * Corleone * Stracci * Cuneo * Tattaglia There are no specific bonuses for picking any certain family, but they are ranked by the amount of territory controlled by all the players in the family, giving a bonus of up to 4% on resource production. You can only join a crew with others in the same family and there is a chat channel specifically for each family. There is also no particularly best family to join. Corleones are in many cases the top families on servers, but that is by no means true for all. On different servers, the same family could be in 1st, in the middle, or in last place. It is all up to you to decide which one you like best. Note: All comments below by players are their personal opinions. You may read them if you wish to help your decision.

  • A Family is a group of monsters that are extremely similar, but with a few minor differences. In general, they are smaller or bigger (With lower and higher attack, defense and HP to match) versions of monsters that existed before 1.0.5. For example, Big Bones, Angry Bones, and Short Bones. The Families are the Hornet Family, the Eater Family, and the Bones Family. Colored Slimes also have a Family, since they all are found in the Forest biome, but Jungle Slimes, Lava Slimes, Dungeon Slimes, Pinky, and Mother Slimes are not a part of it.
  • Families are all-rounded customer types as they order and eat at a moderate speed. They leave moderate tips as well. However, special attention is needed when serving family customers. Firstly, a high chair is needed for the baby. Otherwise, the baby will cry and upsets other patrons. They are also prone to making spills on the floor, so Flo has to pick up the mop to clean their table. If a bar counter is included some levels, Families are not recommended to be seated there as the high chair cannot be placed at the bar. In later series, families consist of a mixture of different characters. For example, father and son, two mothers with babies and so on. Sometimes even a senior is included in the family group, but there is no indication in the canon that they are somehow related. In other spin-off games, each family member is given a name and have developed personalities: * Duncan the Dad * Maggie the Mom * Kingston the Kid * Baby Bobbie

  • Each faction starts with a set of family members composed of that faction's leader, his spouse, their children, including a faction heir, any of their spouses and any grandchildren. Only the male members of the family are controllable, once they reach the age of maturity, 16 years old. They govern settlements when stationed in a city and when fielded upon the world map, command armies. Male family members are added to the family by births between married family members, as well as adoption and marriage. Family members eventually die, either naturally through old age or by death in battle, assassination or due to natural disasters. In the absence of generals commanding field armies, captains are the commanders by default. Admirals fulfill a similar function for fleets. Neither are family members, but appear in the list of forces when displayed. However, if a captain is victorious in a battle in which the odds are against him, the player may have the option of adopting the captain. Julii family member with several traits and his retinue Family members can acquire traits depending on their actions in battle or when governing a city. These can have both positive and negative effects on their command, management, and influence, which in turn affect their battlefield performance and how well a province they govern operates. Some of these traits are hereditary, and can be inherited by the children of a family member. Family members can also acquire ancillaries by the same actions. These are members of a general's retinue, but can only number up to eight. These ancillary characters can be traded between two family members if they are in the same army or city.
