Originally a general in the Celestial Court, who had gotten drunk and tried to molest the Moon Goddess Chang Er (嫦娥), and was punished to be exiled from the Celestial Court and to be reborn as a human in the mortal world. However, things went wrong and he was send to the womb of a sow and born as a half-pig half-human monster. Later he was taken as the second disciple of the Holy Monk Tang San Zang (唐三藏) and set off on his journey.
