| abstract | - Freeborn began his career in the Art Department as a model and production assistant on the 2000 film The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle. This film starred Jason Alexander and also featured Whoopi Goldberg, Max Grodénchik, and Norman Lloyd. Freeborn's first project as a set designer was the 2000 independent film The Last Man, which starred Star Trek: Voyager regular Jeri Ryan. His set design credits have since included such big budget films as Pearl Harbor (featuring Pat Healy, Glenn Morshower, Randy Oglesby, Leland Orser, John Pyper-Ferguson, Steve Rankin, Raphael Sbarge, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and Michael Shamus Wiles), 2001's Planet of the Apes (featuring Erick Avari, Freda Foh Shen, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Anne Ramsay, and David Warner), X2 (starring Bruce Davison, Famke Janssen, and Patrick Stewart), and The Chronicles of Riddick (starring Roger R. Cross and Karl Urban). He also did uncredited set design work for Steven Spielberg's 2002 science fiction film Minority Report, featuring Patrick Kilpatrick and Neal McDonough. He again worked with Spielberg as a set designer (this time credited) on the 2004 film The Terminal (featuring Jude Ciccolella, Michael Nouri, and Zoë Saldana). Before working together on Star Trek, Freeborn and Keith Cunningham collaborated on the films Van Helsing and Hostage; the latter film featured Jimmy Bennett, Tina Lifford, and Glenn Morshower. Freeborn was a set designer on both of these films. As a production designer, Freeborn worked on the 2000 independent film Yup Yup Man (starring David Bowe) and the 2002 short film Simplicity. Most recently, he was production designer on the drama film Take. Freeborn was an assistant art director on the acclaimed television comedy series Arrested Development, for which he won an Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild in 2004. He then served as assistant art director on the films xXx: State of the Union (having previously designed sets for the first film, 2003's xXx), Poseidon, The Santa Clause 3: Escape Claus (featuring Michael Dorn), Next (featuring Jim Beaver), and Charlie Wilson's War (featuring Spencer Garrett, Pasha Lychnikoff, Brian Markinson, Rachel Nichols, and Faran Tahir). Star Trek is Freeborn's second film as a lead art director. The first was another Paramount Pictures production, Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
