  • "A youkai that prefers to live deep within forests. Taking the appearance of an elderly woman, they seem to make delicious pickled rice bran. The dangerously sharp kitchen knife is for chopping up vegetables, not people. They sometimes pick random children to be their grandchildren and try to feed them, but I suppose the taste isn't exactly popular amongst the children. They kind of remind me of my kindly old grandmother...although her face wasn't nearly as scary." File:89.jpg
  • Yamanba, which may be roughly understood as 'mountain hag', are a type of youkai that inhabit the mountains as their name states. They're often depicted as malicious beings that kill people and children lost in the mountains, but there are some folklore stories which depict them as motherly figures towards children abandoned in the mountains, which would grow up to be a hero.
  • Manba then became more extreme, with multicoloured and usually synthetic hair. Manba in 2008 saw a darker tan, and no facial stickers. Hair was usually neon/bright colours, with pink being a favourite. Wool emulating dreadlocks, extensions, and clips were worn to make hair appear longer. Clothing remained the same, although leis were worn less frequently. The male equivalent is called a "Center guy", a pun on the name of a popular pedestrian shopping street near Shibuya Station in Tokyo called Center Gai センター街 (Sentā-gai).

Although less popular than other Gyaru styles currently, there are still Gals who wear/identify as Yamanba and/or Manba.
