  • Born during 984 ABY on Ploo II, the young Glymphid male lost his mother only a few weeks after his birth, and was left to be raised by his father, Hept Sahlk. The two never grew notably close, but Carra Sahlk held a secret respect and love for him. Rather, Sahlk instead grew close to his father's M-3PO protocol droid, nicknamed Emmy. Emmy, having a long lifespan and being free of most of the memory wipes that droids go through, often taught Sahlk numerous bits about the galaxy at large, as well as different combat skills and war history. In school, however, Sahlk performed notably poor, and his poor grades often made him the target of ridicule. Having enough of it, Sahlk dived into the Ploo II street life, joining a street gang of other adolescents. He quickly developed a skill with blasters, but abandoned the gang after nearly being killed in a costly shootout with another gang. Sahlk returned to school and sought out a tutor to help improve his grades. He eventually met Yereva Beed, a female Glymphid, who agreed to tutor him and help him in his studies. Over time, Sahlk's grades improved immensely, though they were still overall average. Beed was nonetheless impressed with her protege's work, and the two eventually began to feel an attraction to each other. However, while their mutual attraction bloomed into full blown romance, Hept Sahlk fell into a dive of alcoholism, and eventually died due to a hear attack. Beed and Sahlk became more intimate in the following months, as the teacher stood by Sahlk's side after the tragedy. Sometime later after a late night, the two had intercourse, and Sahlk began to believe that a child had been conceived. He was never able to confirm his suspicions however, as another Glymphid began to pine for Beed's affections. Beed rebuked the Glymphid continually, yet he continued trying to gain her affections. Unsure of Beed's own strength in the matter, Sahlk planned to seal themselves with marriage. Sahlk decided to meet her a corner diner, where he planned to propose. As Beed made her way to the diner, the male Glymphid attempted one last time to win Beed's heart with a swoop trick on the open road. The trick proved ill-fated, however, and the male's speeder went hay-wire, crashing into Beed's speeder and sending her into a larger vehicle. Both Beed and the other driver were killed in the collision, and the Glymphid male tried to escape the scene. Sahlk had witnessed it, however, and caught the male before he could escape. Out of pain, rage, and fury, Sahlk strangled the Glymphid to death. Horrified at Beed's death and his subsequent crime, Sahlk opted to escape Ploo II and leave it forever. Gathering Emmy and whatever credits they could muster, the two stole a frigrate and launched into space. Using his impressive hacking skills, Emmy modified the ship's computers, renaming the vessel to Phobos Gate and changing the ownership logs to act as a cover for the thievery. In addition, they eventually replaced one of the frigate's cannons with another shield generator for advanced protection.
