As a senior lieutenant during the Battle of Jaga's Cluster, she was wounded when a Mandalorian "room-buster" grenade sent shrapnel through her helmet. Nevertheless, she rallied the Marines under her command, and retook their warship, the Battleaxe, one of the few vessels to survive the debacle. With her vessel laid up in a Corellian shipyard, Nessai, who had earned Bloodstripes for her bravery, missed out on the rest of the war, including the Battle of Malachor V. By the time of the outbreak of the Jedi Civil War, Nessai was back in action, having received a promotion to lieutenant commander and a new posting, as the leader of the Third Marine Battalion's Dorn Company, under the overall command of Captain Laera Reyolé. As part of Reyolé's operational plan for the assault on the Sith-held world of Iridonia, Nessai's company would attack and secure the supply base's outpost towers in preparation for the main force assault on the complex itself. At the head of her First Platoon, she personally oversaw the securing of the first tower, having met little effective resistance. By 3,956 BBY, Nessai had been promoted to full Commander. When Captain Reyolé was recalled to the Deep Core to undertake a mission to capture the Dark Lord of the Sith, she was tapped to fill the role of executive officer for the veteran battalion.
