| abstract | - The All Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) is a bipedal walker used by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars and, later and more extensively, the Galactic Empire. Also known as a "chicken walker" because of its shape and walking motion, the AT-ST is a heavily armed light ground combat vehicle. It is equipped with a chin-mounted double medium laser cannon, a concussion grenade launcher on the starboard side of its head, and a blaster cannon on the port side. The chin guns have an effective range of two kilometers and are used for anti-vehicle attacks, while the blaster cannon and grenade launcher provide close-range protection. The walker’s armor is strong enough to protect it against infantry, but not against other assault craft with heavier weapons. The AT-ST’s bipedal propulsion system is one of the primary weaknesses of the walker. On even terrain the walker can achieve over 90 kilometers per hour, but on uneven or shifting terrain an AT-ST can quickly become unbalanced enough to fall over. The system is also relatively fragile and can be disabled or destroyed with the right shot.
