The Federation was given a presence in the system after it was asked by the Bajoran government to administer the space station, Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Emissary") In 2373, the Dominion attempted to destroy the system by blowing up the systems star. The attempt was foiled by the crew of the USS Defiant. (DS9: "By Inferno's Light") The system was occupied by the Dominion for several months during the Dominion War after it drove Starfleet forces from the system.
