Brigadier General Charlie Hammond was the head of the Army Medical Forces in the Far East, Seoul sector in both the 1970 film M*A*S*H* and the CBS-TV series M*A*S*H. In the film, General Hammond coordinates a intermural football game between the MASH surgeons and a team which he assembled of medics and surgeons that worked at a nearby evac hospital which was under his command. In the M*A*S*H TV show pilot episode, titled "Pilot" (Season 1, episonde #1, 1972) Gen. Hammond visits the 4077th with Colonel Blake (McLean Stevenson) to observe the command when he and Col. Blake happen to catch the surgeons throwing a party in the mess tent and offering the intimate favors of Lt. Dish (Karen Philipp) in a raffle while there's a lull in the fighting action; he then threatens to court martial Hawkeye and Trapper until he observes and assists them in a long surgery strech when the wounded once again arrive. In both the original film and the television series, Gen. Hammond was played by character actor G. Wood, who appear in two more episodes in the first season, "To Market, to Market" (Season 1, episonde #2) and "Henry Please Come Home" (Season 1, episonde #9) before being dropped from the series storyline altogether.
