Macclesfield Town
rdfs:comment
Bristol Rovers and Macclesfield Town have met sixteen times in competitive football, with the better record belonging to the Silkmen. They have won seven times to the Rovers' two. Although founded in 1874, originally as Macclesfield, Town being added to their name in 1966, it wasn't until 1997 that they were promoted to the Football League. They had actually won the Conference two years earlier, but were denied promotion due to their ground not meeting league requirements. After winning promotion to Division Two at the end of their first season in the league they faced Rovers for the first time in a 0–0 draw a week before Christmas day 1998.
