"In 1840, François Arago, the director of the Paris Observatory, suggested to the French mathematician Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier that he work on the topic of the planet Mercury's orbital motion around the Sun. The goal of this study was to construct a model based on Sir Isaac Newton's laws of motion and gravitation. By 1843, Le Verrier published his provisional theory on the subject, which would be tested during a transit of Mercury across the face of the Sun in 1843. As it turned out, there was not a close match between Le Verrier's theory and the observations. Le Verrier renewed his work and, in 1859, published a more thorough study of Mercury's motion. This was based on a series of meridian observations of the planet as well as 14 transits. The rigor of this study meant that any differences from observation would be caused by some unknown factor. Indeed, there still remained some discrepancy. During Mercury's orbit, its perihelion advances by a small amount each orbit, technically called perihelion precession. The phenomenon is predicted by classical mechanics, but the observed value differed from the predicted value by the small amount of 43 arcseconds per century. Le Verrier postulated that the excess precession could be explained by the presence of a small planet inside the orbit of Mercury, and he proposed the name "Vulcan" for this object. In Roman mythology, Vulcan was the god of beneficial and hindering fire, including the fire of volcanoes, making it an apt name for a planet so close to the Sun. Le Verrier's recent success in discovering the planet Neptune using the same techniques lent veracity to his claim, and astronomers around the world attempted to observe a new planet there. There were numerous citings in the mid-19th century, and again in the 1970's by Henry Couten of Dowling College, although the current scientific community recognizes using General Relativity to explain the clear abberations in Mercury's orbit."@en . . . While observing records of Zerg Guardians, Terran Wraiths and Protoss Scouts against heavy ground units, the Vaul felt the need to research on air-to-ground assault technology. Even with advanced technology, Wraiths and Scouts needed to work in packs to wear down an Ultralisk or burn down a building. Enemy infantry tended to run for cover before any significant damage could be inflicted. Once one unit was destroyed, cavalry would arrive in large numbers to send the attacking ships into retreat. All these factors were taken into account before the Vaul developed the Vulcan-series. Merging Terran blueprints with Protoss ones, the Vulcan is best described as an upside down Siege Tank. Each vessel is equipped with a Particle Cannon equal in firepower to an Archon. The cannon is box-like instead of round in order to focus the beam for long-ranged attacks. Thanks to the blast being so concentrated, Vulcans can hit targets at twice the range of regular Siege Tanks. This is good for both siege and sniper attacks against enemy forces. Small scouting units can spot for a Vulcan, while the enemy is left wondering where the blasts are coming from. As great as they are against ground forces, Vulcans are completely defenseless against air attacks. If left unescorted, Vulcans can be slaughtered in a head on battle with the newer fighters of the three Koprulu races. So it is not uncommon to find them accompanied by several Halberds or Darkstars. The magnetic coils of the Particle cannon can be modified into a powerful Mass Driver. When activated, the vessels stops moving and the cannon's barrel transforms slightly into a much wider form. The Mass Driver then charges its shot to maximum potential before launching a projectile straight down at hypersonic speeds. This projectile has enough energy to create a large impacts and a tremendous seismic shockwave (Star Wars: Seismic tank; Red vs Blue: Mother of Invention). Anything within the impact zone is immediately pulverized while the shockwave continues to damage whatever else is nearby. Should any enemy force survive the shockwave, they would need time to recover before retaliating (Warcraft III: Mountain King). During sieges, Vulcans leave nothing but craters in their wake. The Vaul added specialized Terran transformation technology hybridized with their own interface technology into the Vulcan's design. This allows them to interface with more than just one Darkstar, opening up a new tactical advantage against any race. With all this combined, Vulcan bombers gives new meaning to death from above. Special abilities:
* Mass Driver - fires a shot straight below itself dealing 800 (+200 vs buildings) and a shockwave that deals 300 damage. Shockwave damage decreases by -100 as it expands. Units not destroyed by shockwave are slowed by -30% for 20 seconds
* Zenith Formation - combines with 4 Darkstars to create a Zenith"@en . "__NOEDITSECTION__"@en . . . . . "54887"^^ . . . However it acts completely differently from the 'mistakenly named' Vulcan (an autocannon, as specified below), with fast rate of fire and similar power to a VS Gatling Gun. (ENT: "The Forge", "Awakening", "Kir'Shara") Tot de 23e eeuw is Vulcan, volgens hun herinneringen, nooit overwonnen. (TNG: "Unification, Deel I & II"). . "Hephaestus"@en . This is not misleading, as they are known for being stoic and logical. To have a Vulcan show emotion of any sort without justification (such as pon farr) is a charge. Vulcans have eidetic memories, which means that their neuralyzed memories of Sues can be recalled with sufficient effort (or through triggering). However, their heavy mental discipline also implies that they can be persuaded to repress those memories again. (TOS: "Operation: Annihilate!") Internally, Vulcan blood is copper-based, and is dark green in color. Their heart is where a Human's liver is, and their brains have a noticeable layered structure. Their blood types include T-negative, which is extremely rare. (TOS: "Journey to Babel") One of the more common types is S-indifferent. (Orion Press: "The Choice") Approximately once every seven years Vulcans enter their mating phase known as the pon farr. During this phase Vulcans experience a neural imbalance (plak tow) causing a loss of emotional control. The Vulcan must then satisfy the pon farr or they could face death. (TOS: "Amok Time", "The Cloud Minders", Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, VOY: "Blood Fever", ENT: "Bounty", "Fallen Hero") Mel'aneesh salad includes nutrients essential to a Vulcan diet. (Absolute Horizon) Hybrids of Vulcans and other species became less and less rare in the 22nd through 24th centuries, though they required medical intervention for the pregnancies to go to full term. (TOS novels The Vulcan Academy Murders and The IDIC Epidemic) Hybridization of Vulcans and other telepathic species (such as Betazoids, or even Terrans with high esper ratings) often result in the offspring having Kowalczyk's Syndrome. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "Through the Looking Glass")"@en . . . . . "The Vulcan were a freedom-loving humanoid species native to the planet Vulca. Widely known for their logical minds and stoic culture, they could be found anywhere, engaged in many different pursuits: spacers, smugglers, merchants, soldiers, farmers, laborers, and many others, including Jedi.
