Mikel Mauher was the owner of Krime Kleaners Inc., a company dedicated to cleaning crime scenes and also Abigail Sciuto's former boyfriend, whom she broke up with after learning that he had something of a very unhealthy obsession with her. Their relationship originally began when Abby fell in love with him after learning that he cleaned crime scenes for a living. But due to things getting out of hand, she got a restraining order against him after breaking up with him. Mauher later refused to believe that they had broken up and began stalking Abby, believing that he was protecting her although his true role in the investigation was later exposed. In a final interrogation with Abby's boss, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Mauher believed that he had done the right thing because if he hadn't intervened, then Abby would be dead. Gibbs later revealed to him that he had planned to kill Abby while disguising her death as a suicide but the plot never got off the ground due to Metro Police Department discovering his car along with the gun and a suicide note he created by copying Abby's handwriting. Mauher went up to the mirror and began talking to the Observation Room, believing that Abby was looking at him and that she couldn't take her eyes off him. Gibbs then left the Interrogation Room but not before switching off the Interrogation Room lights while also revealing that the Observation Room was empty much to Mauher's own distress. This didn't stop Mauher from voicing his belief that Abby was still there although there was no-one watching from the Observation room. He kept screaming for Abby, confirming that he was well and truly insane.
